I have a 2000 Fender jazz deluxe I picked up from a guy on craigs list and as I'm geting into it, I find that there's 2 different style pups. As far as I can tell, eveything looks like stock wiring. Also, when the bridge pup is full, it's "noiseless" but when faded or neck is full there's a hell of a buzz. Did someone pull a switcheroo on me? Check out the picture to see what I have goin please.

I'm pretty sure that is the right stuff on there. The Deluxes had a different Bridge PU. I'm pretty sure my 98 was like that.

The buzz thing might be odd for the Deluxes but American series and USA std it's normal for the buzz when backing off a PU. If it's real bad it could be grounding prob or amp prob or house wiring prob etc etc- or neon lights will make it buzz fer shure.

American or Mexican made ?

I have 2001 Fender Frontline magazin. All jazz Deluxe, boths pickups are the same pickup model as your neck pick up.

Did the bass do some noise at the buyer home ? Or you did not test it !

I met the seller at the local cop shop and made sure to bring a plug in tuner to see if I got signal out of both pups. I'm wondering now if I can use the pups in it right now and just re wire it as passive and dump the board. I dont like active electronics anyways, just figured I may give it a try.

Looks like the neck pickup has been replaced. I'm 100% sure it isn't original. On the 2000 Active Jazz (MIM) both pickups had 4 large poles, like the one in the bridge pickup position of this bass which is probably original to the instrument. I think I'd keep it active and look for an original 4 large pole pickup. The stock pickup reminds me of a Seymour Duncan Quarter-Pounder but as I recall the Fender version had Alnico poles not stainless. Not sure about that though, it has been at least 10 years since I've seen one like this one but I don't remember them being stainless steel. I really liked those pickups as they had startling sensitivity and a fuller range tone than a Quarter-Pounder.

Single coil pickups will hum when soloed even if you make it passive. You could try copper shielding it which would help a bit. I prefer single coil hum over the hamstrung tone of any humbucking pickup. Shield it, find an original neck pickup, but leave it active.
