can't see the pics but it's probably ash or swamp ash if the grain is pretty dark/thick . . . if it looks like what you see coming through a regular sunburst then it will be alder.

Alder can have a similar appearance to ash sometimes. Alder has a smoother looking grain and ash has a rough look along the lines of the grain and the grain is a little darker looking under a transparent finish in a lot of cases. :D . I like both. Wood is good.

If you would let us know what model and year bass it is and the exact finish name you could get a good answer without pictures.

No photos. No model. No serial. I think Robla84 either found everything he needed in the very generous advice given already, or couldn't figure out how to post photos and is afraid to ask. I was waiting on photos or more info or serial or anything else. Of course if it is a true Fender Blonde it is almost certainly ash, but I'm not saying it is ash till I have more forensics.

Don't call C.S.I. if you aren't hanging around to answer questions! LOL

It's a Butterscotch Blonde American Series Jazz Bass with the S1 switch.

Body is made from solid ash.

Yeah I've seen alder with more distinctive grain than that. I'm used to fat grain Swamp Ash. Either way ash is really good body wood IMO. :D

Is the finish on the electronics plate flat finish? P guard looks like it too.

Butterscotch Blonde Fenders always employed ash bodies since the first official Broadcaster guitar came out in 1950.

Well it does look a bit like maple and alder and basswood actually. It also looks a bit like Poplar. I have a 74 Poplar body P bass. One guy told me I was nuts and that Fender did not make a 74 Fender with a Poplar body. He was "all seeing" and "all knowing". I wish I was. :D

I ordered a Precision in Butterscotch Blonde in 2007. I could swear it was listed as alder. Not the best P bass I've had.
