Hello,

I've just acquired my Fender Jazz Bass American Deluxe - not the newest model, but the one from 2010 - and am quite happy about it. Nonetheless, I've got a little problem with it: as I started to test it, I noticed that some of the control knobs were a little bit loose.

With the hex saddle height adjustment wrench that accompanied it I could tighten the volume control; but I was unable to do the same with the active/passive mini toggle, 'cos its screw is a little bit smaller than the volume's - by the way, it has exactly the same size as the bass control knob -.

Is there any specific wrench I should use do tighten it?

2010 was the first yeard of the current model American Deluxe line of basses & Guitars,....I have a 2011 & the toggle switch is fastened with a tiny hexagon bolt,...do you have an after market toggle switch,....can you post a photo so that we can see what you're talking about...... :?

I've typed it wrongly, mine is from 2011 too and it has an hexagon bolt! I know I should try an Allen wrench on it, but since there are a lot of different wrench's sizes, I'm not quite sure which one I should buy for this toggle.

I don't have my camera home, but I'll try to get it tomorrow and send you a picture.

Ok Fringway I don't need a photo because you have the standard toggle mounted with a hexagon bolt,......... if you want to tighten the toggle you're going to have to take off the Bell plate with the knobs on it & then get a ratchet with a hexagon bit that will fit the hex bolt on the toggle & with the Bell plate off hold the switch while you give the bolt on the toggle a slight turn,.....you can do this with an adjustable wrhench if you don't have a ratchet set.
VERY IMPORTANT: if you tighten the toggle with out taking off the plate & while not holding the toggle in place underneath,......you might break a wire because the toggle will move around in a circle thus potentaly breaking a wire.....if you're not confident doing the or don't have the right tools take it to a shop & have them do it,....it will save you a lot of grief.. Good Luck :)

Hey man, thanks for the help! I've bought me a wrench set and tightened it a little bit, just to the point where it was smooth, and now the knobs are working perfectly!
Now I can finally play it in my gigs :D

No problem Fringway, glad I could help,........& remember if you ever have to tighten a volume or tone pot or a toggle switch that's loose make sure you take off the bell plate with the knobs attached & hold them in one hand while you tighten with the other hand using an appropriate tool ...this way the pot or toggle won't move around & possibly risk a wire getting pulled & disconnected,....... I talk from experience,...... I learned the hard way many years ago... :)
