I've just put on my second set of DR NEONs on my Jazz bass, so you can see I liked them enough to buy them again. I had never used a coated string before. Be adventurous and try them! They sound GREAT. VERY nice musical top end with plenty of singing highs. None of that horrendous ringy-zingy tin can noise like a Rotosound. Beautiful round bottom and plenty of juicy mids you can sink your teeth into. This is an exceptionally well balanced stringset. DR's new K3 coating is excellent, and doesn't come off easily. If you use a pick a lot or all the time, then yes, you are going to wear the coating off in that area, but it does not change the tone of the string. Over months of use (daily playing of an hour or more) the coating will begin to wear but not very much. I had my first set on for six months. The first three months were wonderful, and I should have changed them after month four. Totally dead at month five, and gone wonky at month six. They have out performed every other roundwound string I have ever used.

They sounded SO good, that I thought I'd lay down a couple of bass tracks.

I did not string through the body and opted to go through the bridge for a straighter string pull.

Not even America's industrial decay can dim the brightness of DR NEONs or Fender's sexy Jazz bass.

Nice report, great pics.

You know, maybe if I put a Neon B on a fiver my brain would start to figure it out.

Thanks one and all for your kind comments. Even you A-Man

James, the alchemy symbols are mylar decals in 'metalic copper'. The one on the pickguard is called "gold (6)". The decal on the backside means "to anneal". I like them as they look hand painted on. Others will find them horrendous, I'm sure. It personalizes the bass and makes it mine.

Any questions on the strings, be sure to ask. Coated strings would be perfect on a fretless as they would put a layer of protection between the string and the fingerboard. The NEONS have positively great GROWL too! DR calls them "Super-Strings" = Nickel plated stainless steel wrap on a round core. Very lively & responsive. The coating really cuts down on the dreaded string screech of regular rounds, and they easily last two or three times longer all while keeping their tone. I love them. :D

Oh! I forgot to tell you where. Sorry, James. They're from Sign Mountian in California.
http://www.signmountain.com/Shop/c/241-magic-symbol-decals/

They were very good about hitting up my credit card, and very BAD about filling the order. Took a month and 3 or 4 phone calls. They lied about shipping, and couldn't care less that I hadn't received the order. When I ordered them to re-manufacture and re-ship, or I would call my bank and cancel the charge they got testy. They never made or shipped the original order in the first place! So beware when and if you deal with them. I'd advise conducting business over the phone and bypass ordering online altogether. They're obviously a very small (maybe one man) opperation and don't always answer the phone, or return calls/messages.

Thanks for the link,..... I'd like to do the Alchemy thing to a white Pearl pickguard Ala' Geddy (but in my own way) who speaking of Which I'm Going to see with Rush on their current Clock Work Angels tour here in Vancouver on July 26 ......Can't wait !! :D it will be my eight time seeing these guys.

Linin, I'll probably try white Neon's on the Fretless,.... I'm trying to keep it vintage looking so I'd stay away from wild colors but I still want to try them.......hey aren't DR Black Beauties the same idea as Neon's ?? hmmmm I'll have to go to their site & check it out....

So do they come in all yellow, all orange or all white sets and then you mix them up?

Nice photos. Way better to photo outdoors. Finishes look better in natural light.

Previously I said mylar but I really ment vinyl decals. D'uh!

Yes James, they have the amalgamation symbol that Geddy uses in assorted colors. Also the symbol for borax that Geddy uses on another bass is very cool looking. It's on page 2. I may order (but I will surely call) some in a 10" size or larger to put on the back and sides of my Rumble 75

I'd go with the white NEONs. It's a new design with a new coating. Black Beauties and Bootzillas were among the first of DR's coated offerings. There are also Dragon Skins.

First, thank you brotherdave for your kind compliment on my photography.

Yes, they come in all single color sets: Yellow; Orange, Pink, Green, and now White. You can custom order a mixed color set from Jason at Bass Strings Online.com You are supposed to get a 'VIP' account with special discount if you're registered with TalkBass. Well I didn't get squat for special treatment or a discount, and had to call to check on my order because they didn't acknowledge the order or send a confirming email.
