Hey everyone, I have a couple Fender Jazz basses that I would like to find out what they are worth.

1996 Fender Jazz American Standard Sunburst with hardshell case
1997 Fender Jazz Japan 1975 reissue Natural with hardshell case

Both basses are like brand new. Both only played a few times.

Please let me know what you think they are worth.

Thanks for your help!
-Brian

I don't think they like us talking money on here.

The 1995 and 1996 American Standards are some of the best Jazz basses ever imo, and have retained their value(they often sell used for the same price as they were new). Check ebay for dollar value.

Don't mention it, there a lot of people who are more than willing to lend a hand.

By the way, welcome to the Forums.

The 1996 MIA Jazz, in the condition you mention, with an original case in a similar condition, $700 - $875. But honestly, $750 would be really good today.

I cannot speak to the MIJ.

No one is buying anything in my neck of the woods. They all want to trade or have me just give them the guitars-- which I'd just as soon keep them if I can't get an honest price. A 96 P would get maybe 600-650 here and a Jazz would be 750 or a little more. That's about all I can ever get . I've had the drop dead mint basses to sell and no one even responds to adds on GL. Sometimes some dude will get nasty with me when I post a sale. He must not know squat. Squat is hard to know for some.

I don't think Fender minds if we discuss vintage values among ourselves at all. They just don't want to get wrapped up in it at Scottsdale because they'd get buried under appraisal requests.

Value is heavily impacted by where you are trying to sell. Around here they could bring more or less than there. Second, the real desirable MIJ reissues are the 80's ones. Third, having hard cases is nice. That adds some value, especially on the Japanese RI. Fourth, what a seller thinks is "like new" often turns out to be more like "very good" or actually modified in some regard.

If stock, the USA one is worth at retail what AFFPROD said around here also, or at least in that ballpark if not just a hair less. The Fender Japan one if stock might bring $700 with no case on a good day. So figure $750 with one on the high side. That is here today at retail. I wouldn't pay that myself though. It might have a slightly higher asking price at a used dealer around here but if it actually brought more than $750 here I'd be real surprised. I'm not in the market for one of either of what you have to sell, the trick is finding someone who is. If you sell them outright to a dealer you'll only get about $300 to $400 per. So do not do that. You might consider consigning them with a vintage dealer if there is one around there that will do that.

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback guys! I will probably try eBay and see what happens. No big hurry. These basses just sit here and don't get used. The only one I plan to keep is my 1970 P-bass.
