I get very leery about wear on fretboards also. As you also mentioned, tension on the neck is at a minimum. Now,................ what can we do about your amp, (amps). HMMMMM. Careful OX, Road Rex (Mr. N), talked me into selling my whole drum set to his friend.

I forgot to mention GHS flats, they are almost the same tension as the rounds, decent strings.

Neck wear has never been something that I consider a problem, as my nesks don't wear. I had a set of Rotosound flats on my Precision and took them off after a few days, they were terrible and i was afraid of what they were doing to the neck. I've used Rotosound, GHS, and Ernie Ball's on all my basses at different times and NEVER experienced anything like those flats.

I can see why you fell in love with the D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewound Strings. They offer all the benefits and none of the detriments.

I've been lucky in the neck department myself with regard to wearing on the necks of my basses,... other than a truss rod tweak every now & then.....& that's also not often . :)

Correction! As well as my nesks not wearing, my necks don't either.

They really are an unknown commodity. Some of the older players may have used the older styled manufactured Nylon Tapewounds, and figure they're the same as those Nylons. They last a long time too.

The part number is the same for a tugbar or a thumbrest. The location impacts the name. If mounted above the E string it is a thumbrest. If mounted below the G string it is a tugbar. Same part, different location. Some people put on both or move the tugbar to a thumbrest position. You see this a lot on vintage ones.

Leo Fender thought everyone would play with their thumb. His original tugbar position gives you leverage for thumb play. Try thumb play with and without the tugbar and you'll see it makes a huge difference in attack. I don't think a thumbrest adds the same impact for most finger style players. For me they are both mostly in the way, but look period appropriate. For me they are sort of like pickup covers on a split coil P-Bass, equally useless...but period correct.

I think I just have one that came with both.

I actually like them in the "thumb rest" position. I play the front a lot and without one my thumb usually finds the neck butt.

I had a '69 Gibson EB0 with the tug bar that never got used. I would prefer the thumb rest position.

Being that i handle hot steel everyday, and have my hands in water a lot, my fingertsps are hard as hell. that's a good thing on my left hand, but on my right, it sounds like I'm playing with a pick. I use my thumb a lot to get the sound. the THUMBREST is there because, #1 i like the look. It gets used some but isn't a regular thing.

And, James, I do like Wobbly Pops, of course my Wobbly Pops may be a little different than those north, but just as enjoyable!

I'm gonna go play Bebe before I have to go to work.

Well, I guess I can't use that one for "What the heck is this".

Story I heard was this was Fender's shot at the semi hollow body basses made popular by the Hofner used by McCartney - but for some reason went with a full hollow body.

Interesting bass, unique sound.

I've got my eye on a fretless Jazz just like Bebe, if I can talk them down a little.
