You know, I didnt notice that untill you mentioned it.
Normally they will have the dot inlays on the neck unless it's a fretless neck.
Does the the neck have raised frets or just the flush lines?

Looks like a Fender 2000 Fretless Jazz Bass Standard Made in Mexico to me. If you are in the market for a fretless those are good. Member here named Oxfan just bought one.

The guy that is selling it told me it is not fretless! Is that a bad thing?

It's a scam.

Scammers try to sell fake Fenders and allparts guitars/basses. Stay away from them ASAP.

It might not be a scam,.....let's get all the facts first before calling this a scam.

Monobass asked:

Answer:
No it's not a bad thing that this is not a Fretless bass, ....however you should ask the seller why there are no position dot markers on the fret board (I did see side dot markers but no dot markers on the fret board)

This fretless MIM Standard J has been professionally converted into a fretted bass, no doubt about that.

Judging the Stratocaster knobs the bass in question is a pre-2003 Standard Jazz.

MIM Standard Jazz Basses produced after 2003 came with genuine USA J-Bass knobs and updated pickups fashioned after the USA AlNiCo V single-coils.

So what,.... if it was a fretless that was converted to a fretted bass,.... it's a $250-$300. Mexican Fender,.....all that matters is that it's in good playing condition, maybe it's always been a fretted bass & the original owner removed the dot inlays from the fret board........ we See people doing Mods to their Fender basses all the time here on the forum.
It doesn't make them less of a Fender Bass,.... it just becomes a modified Fender Bass.
& really ??? are you gonna split hairs over a Modified Cheap Mexican Fender?

It's just merely an opinion.

Frankly, it's not the first time I see a fretted Fender without face position markers on the fingerboard. :D

The 40th Anniversary Precision Bass of 1991 lacked off face dots.
