I have been thinking about selling the first bass my parents bought me. I don't know exactly what it is tho. or what it is worth.

It is mainly black with a white pick-guard area. It looks pretty standard.

It says 'Jazz' on the head and also says 'Made in Mexico'.

The serial number starts with MN4, and I believe that means it was from 1994-1995.

I can attach a picture if that helps, but I don't see how to do that.

The bass is in almost perfect condition. It's rarely used. Any idea what the model is? and what this bass is worth?

thanks.

Please post a photo of the Bass & so that we can better help you. And yes a serial number that starts with MN4 is a Mexican Made circa 1994 - 95 Bass.

Simple as you can imagine!

Create an account within a free imagehost (PhotoBucket, ImageShack, Flickr) and upload your photos there.

Once you've uploaded your media copy the IMG code containing the URL address and paste it.

Fender Standard Jazz Bass. Cannot tell condition from the picture, but if it is as clean as you say, I would put it at $250-$300.

Affprod beat me to the punch,.....& he's right,..... if it's in good playing condition it's worth $250-$300.

Think long and hard before you sell it - sounds like it's your first bass and many of us regret selling our first basses. But also consider the fact that it was a gift from your parents - that will be worth more than $2-300 down the line.

Sorry I'm being sentimental, but yesterday was Fathers Day here in the US...

It's a pre-2003 MIM Standard Jazz with the black Strat knobs.

Sorry to intrude, this thread just made me think.

I bought a Fender jazz bass about a year ago, the serial is scratched off though. She shares the same style as the 80's jazz bass. Is there any way I can find out for certain what year the bass is?

Ill post a pic if you guys have any ideas.

Shot :)

Guess you overlooked the 1994 model year serial photo there ChromeFace.

Retail around here seems to be more like $325 to $350 lately, but it depends on where you are and the condition. A dealer might offer you 150 to 175 for it then turn around and mark it $350 and take $310. As a private seller you might get $275 in a private sale.

There were so many of these made I really can't see them appreciating much, HOWEVER I must qualify that by saying I was wrong about 83/84 USA Jazz Basses too which have appreciated dramatically in the past few years. Five years ago you could buy them for under 600 all day long and I never thought they'd appreciate much because there were just "so many of them." Now they are like $1200 in collector class shape around here and there are still plenty of them. Don't know why they went up so much, it really doesn't make sense but it happened.

Good point Dave, in fact that whole Standard series from 81-84 has done very well lately. Demand has increased also. I flipped one without leaving the show, so there were at least two of us interested.
