My cousin has an American Jazz Bass and it came with the stock light gauge .045, .065, .085, .110TW, but he ordered some Medium gauge .050-.070-.085-.105. and I am going to change them for him, will he get fret buzz or anything? He shouldn't have to do anything to his nut should he? I know it isn't a huge jump, but just being careful about it

DO NOT do anything to the nut! Your first instinct is correct, it's not much of a jump, and needs no adjustment to the nut.

Now, changing string sizes/types can affect the intonation, so you might have to tweak the bridge a little. Maybe.

Thanks, I didn't plan on messing with the nut, but I figured if anything I would need to raise the E a tad to get rid of any buzz

45-105 has worked on any bass I've had without doing anything to the nut-- I've always thought the 45-105 is an average standard set of strings. There are more guages now than there used to be back inna day. If you don't need a 110 E string I'd say try the 45-105 for a 4 string bass. Okay that's my 2 cents.

Change the strings one at a time.

Raising the gauge should actually decrease fret buzz. The neck will bow forward a little bit. Let it settle a week or so first if you plan on tweaking the truss rod. Turn it just a hair..then check the neck. It won't need much tweakin'.
