Could anybody help me? There is serial number E 94895 in my "new" fender jazz bass? I can't found that number from fender pages.. The neck date NOV 14 and It's looks that there is year 1981 written in very tiny characters... Could that serial number mean year 1981?
Hope that someone can help me...

Petri

Go here to find out what year your Bass is:
http://www.fender.com/support/articles/ ... ct-dating/
the letter E should be followed by a number & then 5 more digits ......E9 (then 5 digits) was 1989 ....... you have E then 5 digits,......did you miss a number?
could you show us a picture of the seriel number?

Petri,

We had this exact issue run through this forum not long ago. I believe your serial decal will have a blank space about the width of a number right after the E, correct?

I tried searching the forum to find the last time this topic came up but did not find it.

E, with 5 digits following, is not a valid serial number as far as I can determine. If there is truly only five digits following the E, and no sign that a 6th has ever been present, I would suggest having it examined by a professional for authenticity.

You could also post detailed pictures here for better feedback than I can offer.

I am not suggesting this is the case with your instrument, but it is a sad fact that Fender instruments are commonly copied, and that number makes me nervous.

This may be the thread I was thinking of...not exact, but did address 5 digits only, along with other issues. Was and S, not an E.....so perhaps there is another thread as well. Hope this helps.

Hi,
Thanks for your advices.. I'll take pictures about the serial number right away, when I get my bass back from service. I took it there cause the nets need to be polish. I get it probably on tuesday. I'm happy to get your opinion about the serial number!!

The serial number looks a little odd,.....there should be a number after the letter E & then 5 digits, the serial number on your bass doesn't exist in the list of Serial numbers that I have. ,Your Bass might be a fake ....... let's let Dave weigh in & tell us.

I think it might be real and is an export model. At one time they made the serials different on exports so they would not find their way back into the USA support system. Decal and fonts look proper for a 1989. It is an 89. I'd check for a neck code on the butt end of the neck and also check the pot codes. I really don't see anything suspect other than one too few digits.

That's what I was finding odd,.... the logo looks legit even the way the serial number is displayed,...all that's missing is a number after the letter E,............ that being said (a couple of months ago) in another thread regarding American Fenders destined for Europe with odd serial numbers I remember you saying that serial numbers destine for Europe were a different sequence ...... I wonder why Fender doesn't include these numbers in their product dating section??
