As a few of you know, I bought a used 2010 Jazz in a small local shop. once I got it home I realized someone put a lot of work into it. They swapped out the knobs for precision knobs, installed a bone nut and someone did a killer set-up. I added covers, knobs and a tortiseshell pickguard. In my haste to complete the job, I didn't examine the pickups. they are incredible, I'm thinking Fender Custom Shops. I really am curious, but I'm not crazy about taking my instruments apart.

Now I'm the proud owner of a MIM fretlees Jazz, dated at 1997-98. I called fender and surprise! There are no records for this bass, he said it was probably a replacement neck, and in that era record keeping was sloppy. Maybe he was just being kind.

Anyway, it plays and sounds great. There's a thumb rest and a

in the near future. Of course a Levy's red mock crocodile strap is going to find a new home.

Thus, the adventures of oxfan continue. Is it just me or does anyone else think it's bad luck to have an even number of basses? And even worse calamity will befall you if you sell any?

I hate to bring this up in the midst of your attempt to justify more GAS but I think it's actually bad luck to have an odd number. I don't like the idea of there being a proverbial "middle child".

On the plus side now that you're all evened up this means you get to buy two at a time from now on! Go big or go home!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Yes I think it's bad luck to have an even number of basses..........I think you should get another one ASAP to correct things,........ you should also get a clove of Garlic, a horn on a necklace,...& a string of rosery beads ....... just in case there's still a possibility of bad luck........ :D

There's a MIM pumpkin burst fretless Jazz at the local shop. It's dreamy..but I need an amp to match what I already own first. While the salesman rolls his eyes..I'll play it once again tomorrow.

wtf, one of the reasons i sold that thing was because i didn't want to bastardize it by swapping the neck with something else . . . can you see what year the body is if you pull off the neck plate or do you have to remove the whole neck?

Hey Chris,

I'm still working idiot hours, any spare time I have, I spend it playing. as I said, it appears to be all Fender, except for the pups of course. It was probably a replacement neck. I'll eventually get around to it, I am the King Of Procrastinators. One thing I really want to do is see if it has the CNC hole under the pickguard, it just might not. If it doesn't. Guess who's got a Jaco lookalike?

Later!

OX!

Congrats on your fretless Jazz. I think you found a really nice one partner. Put some Nylons on there, and your set. Best of playing with the fretless. Image
I may have a set of Nylons from a Jazz. If I do, and you want them, I'll send them to ya'.

Thanks Glenn, you're very generous. Actually, I'm thinking of going with Rotosound 66's. Yeak I know it may tear up the fretboard but I think I may chance it,

No problem Ron. I'll get em to ya'. If you like them, cool. If you don't no problem. Hang on to them, or pass them on to some one. On Fretless Jazzes I've played in the past, the D'Addario Nylons or the D'Addario flats did well.

oxfan I believe you are correct.......it is bad luck to have an even number of basses and it is an insult to the bass gods to sell one.
But not to worry......I have a solution for you.......send one of them to me.....you'll be back to owning an odd number of basses without selling one. The bass gods will smile upon you!
