Oh.. I understand sensitivity. Everyone has something to hide or feel sensitive about. We just go along and be ourselves. If I cross the line and say someone is %$# because they use a pick- I'm sorry. Political correctness strikes a chord with me and I just push back against it. So you may be #$% or not. It doesn't bother me. I won't make any more comments that might offend someone . It's going to be hard though.

Nah, I don't think you should change at all. I'll just call you on it! And I'll keep playing with a pick, knowing that I have integrity as an artist and refuse to be limited to what other people mistakenly think is "proper" bass playing. If anything, the idea that playing bass with a pick is inferior is actually a kind of political correctness - think about it!

But actually I'm glad we were able to have this conversation - be yourself and keep playing the bass!!!

The thing is -- I like playing with a pick. I will play with a pick sometimes. Not a lot though. I've gotten so used to playing with my fingers that it feels odd to me (playing with a pick). I used to play with a pick a lot more back in the 8o's in order to do stuff like Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow and Black Sabbath and such. I think Geezer played with his fingers though. There IS a need for pick. I just went off and started making ( bad?) jokes. I'll do that sometimes.
I recently played in a band 5 years and never touched a pick. I quit the band. The guy who was promoted into my spot plays with a pick exclusively. I don't know what that means. Maybe a bit of perspective? That was probably wrong "word application". I'm not upset about a guy playing bass with a pick where I only played with my fingers. It goes deeper than that....... I'm getting confused. :)

Fingers!! I use all fingers in my right hand. The pinky and thumb for string muting, the others for plucking. And of course the thumb and index for funk style.

I'm starting to think playing with your thumb(like Sting in latest years) is most fluid, and controlled. Timing seems to come easier.
