Hello, first time posting and I have a question about buying a Jazz Bass.

I'm planning on buy a jazz bass this summer and I'm concerned some pics I've seen on the web.

I dont like pic guards and plam on removing mine the second I get the bass home. The problem, is I've seen many recent jazz basses with huge open router cuts to the bridge pick up and even cnc point marks ie 1" hole in the body.

Any way to tell if the guitar I buy will have these holes, or a clean body beneath the pic guard?

Thanks

Ask to the seller and remove the pickgard to see by yourself.

There are no way to be sure unless you do that.

Which bass do you want to buy , Amrican made , mexican made , japan , koran ??

The MIA re-issue Jazz Basses ('62, '75, and artist signature instruments based on those models) should have the traditional routs without the extra CNC holes.

Get an American vintage re-isse bass, a Duff McKagan Jazz Bass special (now known as the Duff Mc-KaganP-bass in the Fender catalog.....it a P bass body with a Jazz Bass neck)
you could also try the Aerodyne Jazz bass ....... you could even try a Sadowsky or G&L Jazz style bass...many of their models don't have pick guards or you can try to find a used 24 fret Jazz bass or a Victor Bailey Jazz Bass ( both discontinued in 2009) they came with out a pick guard.

Thanks James. I already have a power jazz bass special (duff + active pick ups circa 1990) I definitely want a j body and pu configuration, and its gonna be a Fender. I just like Fender, nothing wrong with the other companies you suggested. I just like my Fender.

and no, I'm not a plant ;)

I hear ya,.... I'm a Fender guy too..... There's a sales guy in the Bass guitar dept at my local music store..(good guy) & when ever I walk in there looking for a Fender Bass to add to my arsenal he always suggests I get a Sadowsky .... I always politely decline & usually leave with another Jazz bass....Hehehe.... that being said,...Sadowsky makes nice basses but as you said.....I'm a Fender guy... :)

All MIJ Jazzes are free of routes and CNC holes. Like said above '62 AVRI Jazz also free. Early Geddy Lee Jazzes (again MIJ/CIJ not Made in Mexico) are "clean" under the guard. Recently sold a Jazz bass Special body I had originally bought because of the lack of holes/routes.
The earlier Classic 60's Jazz bass had no holes or routes but you would have to buy used and ask the seller. The later ones do.
Hope this helps.

If you are considering a used jazz, stratele52's comment is the way to go. Insist on seeing the body with the pickguard off.

I should listen to my own council sometimes.

+1

Likewise, the earlier MIM Classic '50s, '60s, and 70s Strats also did not have the CNC holes. They started showing up around 2005.
