Semi old thread so forgive me for reviving it but here goes.

I have a MiM Jazz Bass from 1991. The only mod I made is to install a Hi-Mass Omega bridge. It made a nice improvement in the sustain department.

The standard bridge that is on many Fender basses is the greatest weakness IMHO. It is usually the one upgrade I almost always make. I currently have a 2018 Fender Player P-Bass that will eventually get this modification as well.

I used to frequently swap out bridges with Leo Quan ones, but I don't even think they make those anymore.

Leo (Glenn) Quan closed down his shop, some time ago. He must have sold the design to Fender. Some of Fender's bridges look exactly like them, minus the names as a Quan bridge.

In that last post I was almost going into "Pressed Rat And Warthog", off the Wheels Of Fire Album. "Pressed Rat and Warthog, closed down their shop, they didn't want to, twas all they had got."

Oh yeah, that's right, I remember you were talking about that a long time ago. Didn't that have something to do with the Geddy Lee Jazz bass, since that he had a Leo Quan bridge on his original Jazz Bass?

Yep. The GL Jazz's bridges were marked Bad $@! ll, until I guess Fender ran out of the stock they must have acquired from L Q, and started up production of the Fender marked L Q bridges.

Well, at least you can still get them. I always thought they were decent bridges, for the most part. At least they work real well for Jazz Basses, or their clones.

It certainly made a nice addition to the Squier Jazz. I had also put one on a Hohner fretless Jazz copy, that I had back in the mid 90's, and that was a huge improvement on that bass. It sucks I was forced in a position to where I had to pawn that bass. Oh well, sometimes life throws you curve balls, but it could be worse. At least I can say I have pretty decent gear now, especially in the amp department.

The almighty dollar got in my way a few times also. I appreciate what you're saying also. One of my Super Bassman's got me out of a jam.

Yeah, that does suck when you're forced to sell your gear.

Lucky for me, I have the Roadie background, that saw gear come, and go while on the road. It's a bummer sometimes though.

Yeah, it's like a sense of defeat, since you often have to work your $@! off to buy it in the first place, unless you're doing well financially, which would probably mean you wouldn't have to do that in the first place, but sometimes things come up that will knock you back a few steps. At least when you're selling stuff to buy other stuff, it's kind of like trading something in for another thing, not because you'll have your utilities shut off, or get evicted for not paying rent. That sort of thing.

I suppose if you're doing well now, then that's OK, and you got through it. 8)
