okay so we have this in the P bass section- thought it would be interesting here too.

I think I've modded Jazz basses more than I have my P's. Maybe because there's more one can mod on a Jazz. I think I've changed everything one can change or mod on a Jazz except for an on board pre-amp. I've changed out everything from tuners to strap buttons and beyond. One thing I didn't get a positive response (IMO) was installing the new Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pick ups in one of them. It seemed like it had less output. And heaven help me if I ever cranked my amp up more. The Nazis I was playing with would look at my volume knob on the amp to see if I was playing louder than normal. Have you ever wanted to just slap someone? I have.

My MIM Standard Jazz Bass has been reconfigured to resemble a 1966 edition. A rosewood "tuxedo" neck from Allparts replaced the factory furniture, complete with repro "paddle" tuners and a strap button on the reverse side of the headstock. I added the chrome ashtray covers to the bridge and neck pickups, as well as a tugbar installed in the traditional location on the pickguard. Under the hood resides a pair of CS '62 Jazz Bass pickups with standard wiring configuration. The body's been refinished in Lake Placid Blue.

The first mod/change I made to a Jazz was removing the pickup cover. That was in 1971.

Last mod/change was a paper in oil Sprague Vitamin-Q cap swap and rewiring to more traditional wiring eliminating the Grease-Bucket tone circuit on a Highway 1 model. That was in 2007. I haven't really messed with a Jazz since.

There were lots of mods in between, some of them total screw-ups.

My first and current bass is a Mexican Standard V. (i'm still on my high school :) ) Changed all of the potentiometers to CTS 250k, and changed the jack to Switchcraft. They have smoother and more accurate response. I heard also that they're eternally durable. Also satisfied by the tonal difference. They did raise the sound!

...Planning to change the pickups soon. SD Quarter Pound, maybe?

I installed a push/pull pot in my mexican standard to change between series and parallel, and I swapped the bridge for a Leo Quan Badass II.

With this mod your bass sounds very similar to that of a Precision.

Main mod was to install the DiMarzio DP-149 Ultra Jazz pickups to enhance low end and to provide hum-free individual pickup operation. Also installed a Fender J-bass logo bridge cover using my grounding procedure upgrade that is recapped elsewhere in the forum as well as installing Dunlop Straplocks and GHS M3050 45-105 flats. Output from the DiMarzio's is 250 mv and frequency response is well below 19 HZ. - in case I do a drop D retune occasionally.

I've swapped out pickups...many times.
Currently, I've shielded and installed SD Antiquity II pickups in 2 of my Jazzes (the 99 and 12 American Standards), and added Schaller strap locks. My Select also received a shielding job and I swapped the parchment/stock pg for a tor pg.

Okay...got a hankering for something new, so I'm having EMG JAX pickups and a BTS system in my 2011/12 American Std Jazz. Wanting one Jazz with a very modern sound for my new Alice in Chains tribute band.

I suppose you plan installing a side-mounted jack to leave room for the 4th knob.
