Hello there,

back in 1996 I got this jazz bass for my birthday. I was still a kid, so I just rocked with it and was never interested in how it is made or from what materials. now I would love to know every single detail since I really love this bass, but I cannot find anything online. could somebody please help?

It's a Fender Jazz Bass V string with active pick-ups, the body is in a single glossy RED while the neck is wood. the serial number is #2010181.

I would really appreciate any info you guys may have.

Your guitar was made at the
Corona Plant (Fender), USA
in the Year(s): 1992 - 1993

It would be considered a 92 model. The 92 model year runs July 1, 1992 through June 30, 1993.

I think since you say active Jazz V that it is possibly the Jazz Plus V. The Plus was the top of the Jazz line at the time. 5 inline tuners, downsized body, 22 frets, Lace Sensor Jazz pickups, Kubicki designed preamp with dual stacked concentric controls in typical Kubicki fashion. The Plus V model was made from 1990 till 1994. The Plus 4 string came out in 1989. The Plus V body is Alder, the neck maple with a Pau Ferro fretboard, the tuners are Gotoh GB-7s and the bridge a Gotoh 5-string. Width at the nut is 1.75." String spacing sort of tight at about 17.5mm.

If you took care of it back when you were a kid, it still has some value, but is not considered a collectable bass just yet. There is one for sale at a vintage online site now that is asking $950, but I would be surprised if it sold for that. The book value is $725-$850. Of the four sold through eBay this year, two sold in this price range, two sold for less, but it gives you an idea, anyway.

The Jazz Plus or Jazz Plus V is a definite BUY at $725 if original and working. This remains one of the best Jazzes ever. Lace pickups and Kubicki preamp together? It's a no-brainer at $725. I guess now is the time to buy them. These were wonderful Jazzes and one of my all time favorite Jazzes. There was an optional upgrade 4 string with a swamp ash body instead of the stock alder. If I ever find one of the ash 4 string ones that is all stock and working it would be hard not to pull the trigger.

Brother Dave, you are right...it is a shoppers market. The most recent eBay sale was $525, just a three days ago. http://www.ebay.com/itm/American-Fender ... 2ec6df1caf. Had a stress crack in the neck pocket, and the case was missing a latch, according to the owner.

You sound very passionate about the Plus. I will check one out as I have never played one. I will also let you know if/when I stumble across a 4 ash. The 5's pop up more frequently, but I do see a sale on March 1st of a 4 for $677. (assume alder)

as affprod mentioned- it's a buyers market. I bet if one seriously worked at it one could find killer deals on USA Fender basses here and now.

Those GB-7 tuners were also used on the new American Standard and Deluxe 5-string Jazzes which were introduced in 1995. Fender replaced them with Schaller Lite gears three years later.
