Can anyone recall when Fender produced the deluxe jazz basses, both 4 and 5 strings if I recall, with the smaller bodies? I seem to remember them being sold in the mid to late 90's, but I'm not sure when they made the switch to the regular body size.

The first of the smaller deluxe kind started in 1990 with the Precision Plus Deluxe and the Jazz Plus Deluxe. They stayed that way until 1994. I'll leave it for another poster to explain the "other" deluxe basses that came later on.

Shortly after the Plus series were discontinued Fender introduced a new breed of dinky Deluxe Jazz Basses in July 1995.

The "dinky" era ended in 2009 as Fender standardized the American Deluxe line the following year.
