Hi guys,

I've been playing my 2005er for a couple of weeks now. Awesome bass!
Just one detail I don't quite get familiar with: the mid-EQ pot in far left position decreases the overall signal by about half (with pan in center position). Is that regular? Also, the shaft of the pot is a lot longer than the other ones. Though it doesn't look like the previous owner has fumbled around the electronics, I thought I'd ask you guys if that is within the usual allowance.

Hi BBB,

It is possible that someone replaced the pot before you got it with an incorrect value. If the correct part is in there it might be defective. It is also possible that a wire could be broken off or a solder connection needs touching up. To check it out first locate the correct service diagram for your instrument.

Open new browser window or tab. Go to Fender's main site home page.
Click "SUPPORT" tab at top right.
Click "Stringed Instruments Service Diagrams"
Click "Bass Guitar Service Diagrams"
Find the diagram for your specific Deluxe.

In looking at what is possibly at least close to your diagram, the mid pot is a
different part number from any of the other pots. The diagram lists the pots as
"controls." The fact it is a pot unique in the control set might explain the shaft difference but generally they should all be the same length which is what makes me suspect a pot swap took place.

Find the right diagram for your instrument, as I'm not sure which one you have,
then verify you have the correct part installed. If not then obtain the correct
pot by ordering the correct Fender part number for your instrument.

Once you have the correct part number you should be able to obtain it from a
Fender dealer. They may have to order it. You can also just go to a search
engine and search "Fender" followed by the part number. Your inquiry would look something like "FENDER 009006100" This often shows links in the search results to one or more online dealers with the correct part. That often works for me and usually takes me to a link for Darren Riley's Guitar & Amp Shop in Raleigh NC which carries a large Fender part selection for online ordering. Darren has a reasonable $7 shipping fee on small orders and free shipping on orders over $99. I get parts there frequently.

I tried to post this info yesterday but the dang forum kept saying "TECHNICAL ISSUES TRY AGAIN LATER!" Sorry but posted soon as I could.
