Does anyone know where I can purchase a replacement pick guard that will fit a 2012 American Standard Jazz Bass? I bought a Genuine Fender pg in tortoise shell (with truss notch) to replace the mint one that came with the 2012, and to my dismay, there was a sizable gap where it lines up with the control plate. Assuming that I perhaps received a "bad" tortoise shell pg (or one that may have shrunk a little), I ordered another one but had the same exact results. I tried loosening the control plate screws to see if I could reposition it better, but the gap still remained. Interesting enough, both of the replacement pick guards that I purchased line up perfectly with my old Hwy 1 and there is no gap whatsoever. If I set one of the replacement pick guards over the mint one that came with my bass, it's obvious they are smaller, which explains why I'm getting this gap with the replacements, but not the one that came with my bass.

If anyone knows where or what to buy that will definitely fit a 2012, it would be appreciated. I have switched out pickguards on a couple other Jazz basses in the past, and never had a problem like this.

Thanks!

You can order them through Guitar Center, or any major retailer that stocks genuine Fender parts, or buy searching on Ebay. However, there's no guarantee that you won't end up with a slight gap. I have a very narrow gap, even with a genuine American Std pickguard. The key is to install the pickguard. Then loosen the screws on the control plate, and try and shift it closer to the pickguard before retightening the screws. It doesn't always resolve the "gap" issue, but it may correct it. Good Luck.

Raginrog, thanks for the reply. I might have to give that a shot again. I believe I had already tightened the pg screws, when I attempted to shift the control plate. I know it doesn't affect the playability or sound, it's just a visual distraction that drives me nuts. :D

BTW, I've read nothing but glowing reviews of the recent American Standards, and mine is a true beauty! Plays and sounds amazing!

I ordered a white pearl from WD Music. It was suppose to be in today by U.S. Mail, but it wasn't. Maybe tomorrow. I'll let you know of the quality when i get it.

Hey RocThrower.

I received the pg from WD Music today. Material wise it's as good as any. All the holes lined up perfectly. Only shielding was over the control cavity. My original had shileding around the pups as well.
Here's a link to some pics (2 page); http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=83747
