I have a problem with my 2005/06 Fender Jazz Bass with S1 switching....

In normal operation, with the S1 switch disengaged (out), the bass operates as a standard Jazz bass, ie two single (single coil) pickups controlled by two independant volume controls (neck/bridge). The sound desired is created by blending more or less of each pick-ups volume control, eg. all neck, all bridge, or a combination of both....

With the S1 engaged (in), the pickups are linked, producing a humbucking like sound that is fatter and with noticeably more gain. I believe only the neck volume control operates when in S1/humbucking position. (but I could be wrong)

A couple of months ago the bass suddenly sounded wierd and I discovered that the S1 system had 'reversed' itself. When the switch button was not engaged (out/normal jazz bass configuration) the sound/output BECAME like the 'engaged' fatter, louder, humbucking sound. But with the same blendability of the 'disengaged' standard jazz config. And a much higher output than the 'original' smaller increased S1 'humbucking' output.

With the switch ENGAGED (in) the bass NOW produces the 'normal' jazz sound (not the S1 humbucking sound) BUT without the blendability of the independant volume controls and at a very low volume. The neck pot controls the overall output. The tone control also does not seem to function in the manner I am accustomed to....

The music shop swapped the S1 switch for a new one and checked the other pots and capacitors BUT THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. The tech contacted Fender Australia and checked all the wiring with a diagram he obtained from them. Every thing appears correct BUT THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RECTIFIED....

I think there must be a short somewhere, but I know nothing....

Any suggestions????

Mine works the opposite of what you describe in the beginning of your post.

The replacement switch could have been bad as well, or there could be a grounding issue somewhere.
