I just purchased a 2004 Fender American Standard Jazz Bass in Sunset Orange Transparent, Ash Body, S-1 Switch and Maple Neck/Fingerboard, Model Number: 019-3462-722. Does anyone have a pricing guide from 2004 to tell me what this bass sold for originally?

can i check with you something. Have you taken off the pickguard before? Is there an exposed wire trench between the neck pickup and the control knobs?

I have and American Standard Jazz to from the 2003-2004 era. And i have that exposed wire trench when i removed the pickguard.

If you can't find the 2004 Pricing guide Via Google you should then go to your local music store & ask them if they could help you out with pricing items from 2004......
I don't think there would be that much of a difference from current pricing,........ maybe about a 20% difference on some items, but thats just a guess.

the exposed wire "trench " is no big deal as far as being inferior or anything like that. The majority of modern era bodies have the open route like you are seeing. Vintage bodies are the ones that have the drilled tunnel for wiring-- reissues have the drilled tunnel and You'll find that here and there with different models. 2004 std is going to have the route like yours. Bro Dave can get specific on it for you if you need that kind of info. The open route is alot easier for wiring especially if you put in new pickups. It's hard sometimes to feed wires thru the tunnel route. I always use a wire and tie it around the pickup wire and feed it thru like a "fish tape" ( electronics term). So all is well and have a good bass day.

I bought a 2006 Jazz bass then towards the end of 2006, and I think I paid $1049, I think they might have been the same price in 2004.

Thanks for your reply. I paid $650 for the bass and it included the original Fender hardshell case. The case still had a $139.99 price sticker on it. This bass has been in a home all it's life and never gigged. It's brand new iwth no wear, nicks or scratches. The action was set way too low, so I adjusted the action and intonation using the Fender Jazz bass manual and put D'Addario stainless roundwounds on it. Absolutely love the sound and the way it plays.

Interesting that it came with a factory Fender branded G&G made case, yet has a price sticker on the case as if it was sold separately from the instrument. That is a bit odd. Probably bought at a shop and they just grabbed the nearest Jazz case though. 1049 does sound about right as a street price for then for a Standard with these features. The swamp ash & S.O.T. finish were both upcharges I think and not exactly the Standard base price which was for stock colors in Alder. Ash Jazzes are far less common than alder ones but not exactly scarce or all that more expensive in the secondary market but to me they are far more desirable.

Weren't sunburst models more expensive as well? I can't remember if that still applies. Will have to run a search.

At one time, like during the CBS era, yes. Sunburst was more way back than solid colors or blonde.

$650 is a fair price for that bass with OHSC in today's market. Case may not be original as pointed out, but you certainly didn't get hurt. Enjoy!
