Totally wierd thing, my 2008 or so (60th anniv) Jazz Bass V w/active 2-9v electronics seems to lose it's signal after a few hours of play. I check the batteries & they're fine. I've brought it to my guitar tech 'Eric' in the SFVAlley & he can't seem to find a problem. Anyone heard of this ??

Could be any number of things causing intermittent signal failure. Being intermittent makes it almost impossible to diagnose. Sure as the sun rises the tech will never be able to duplicate the failure.

I know you may already have checked these things, but just in case here are some obvious things that come to mind:

1. Replace the cable between the amp and bass. Replace the batteries even though they check good. See if that eliminates it.
2. Try a different amp. It might not be the bass cutting out at all but the amp cutting out. Try another instrument with the same amp to see if you can duplicate the failure with another instrument.
3. If a new cable and different amp don't do it then replace the jack. It is a 3 conductor (stereo) jack. The third contact turns the battery power on and off. Jacks do wear out. Stereo jacks are notorious and especially the 3 conductor panel/barrel variety jacks. The jack costs about $5 and you can replace it yourself if you have even rudimentary soldering skills.
4. If still not working do a visual and wiggle inspection of every solder joint. It could be a cold solder joint.
5. If none of the above it might be a bad preamp. But frankly that is the last thing I suspect. The odds favor it being a connectivity issue.

My first thought was the jack to cable connection, identified by brotherdave in his 3rd point. As Dave pointed out there are other possibilities but that was the first thought that crossed my mind. I have the Victor Bailey Jazz which I believe was the first Fender bass to use that 18 volt system. Since the bass does not have a passive option and can only be run active it makes sense to me that a poor or intermittent connection at the jack could mysteriously turn the power off and on.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
