Which do you like better and why? (I'll assume we're talking about the reissues here unless you're lucky enough to have a real one!)

I own 2- 62 re issues after I compared it with the 64 re issue. There are features I like in both but let's get the first one out of the way.Price! The 62 is less cost and you can see some of the reasons why. The finish on the 64 is much nicer and the pu's are the Vintage Reissue, but that is where it ends in my opinion. On the 62 I like the concentric knobs for look and function. I like the neck on the 62 as well but this is a personal thing so you need to shop around but this is not an east task because how many of the stores are carrying these baby's in stock. So what I have done is replace the stock pu's with Custom Shop Reissues and POW! Cool looking, great burping sound and plays like butter. So I trust I have answered your question. My next bass is the Jaco Relic. What I saved on the 62 I can go for the Grail.

So if money's no issue it sounds like, since you changed out the pickups, you prefer the 64's tone over the 62; is that right?

Yes if the cost is not an issue then the 64 has all the great features and the tone due to the Vintage Custom Shop PUP's that are stock. All I am saying is I like the esthetics of the 62 ie/ Stack Pots. The 64 is a great bass but I also liked the feel of the neck on my two 62's as compared to the 64 I played. It is easy to change the sound but getting the feel is the key.

Happy Bottom Ending!

Thanks! I've been eyeing several Jazz basses, both expensive and cheaper options, and wondering if the 64 CS was really worth the extra money.

Just curious -- what about the neck on the 62 did you prefer?

They are almost the same. I think it was just luck that I liked the neck on the 62 as much or better than the 64.t was just the feel but maybe the price had a little to do with it. But as I said I was not comparing the cost as much as the fit and feel. All in the hands my friend.

Yeah, tone and feel are subjective, that's for sure. I just don't want to end up buying a dozen Jazz basses chasing "my" tone if I can get it right the first time. That's the tricky part!

Well I think that the Vintage Custom Shop PUP's will surely help if you choose the 62 but who knows you may like the stock PUP's that are in it ? I found them to have a deeper sound but they are not as versatile as the C /S PUP's. Also how your amp is set up is key. Now that's the challenge lol. I am using an Eden rig.

Well, if the 62 pups produce deeper tone that's what I want, so maybe that's the way for me to go after all. :D
