Well I can tell ya My CIJ Geddy Jazz Bass & MIJ Marcus Miller Jazz bass are now like Gold to me .......... especially after playing a MIM Marcus Miller jazz bass ....... there's several differences .....most of them esthetic... I found the MIM Geddy Bass that I played to be pretty close to my CIJ..... I only notice a difference with the Sunburst finishes.(The Sunburst Geddy basses I've seen & played are in music stores.....my Geddy is Black)

You mentioned you wish the Geddy Lee Jazz Basses still had Customshop pickups in them,..... The Geddy Lee Jazz Bass has always had Vintage pickups in them,....from what I've heard they used to have American Vintage pickups in them sent over to Japan from California ( I believe my 2006 CIJ Geddy has American Vintage Pickups .........& in later production when the Geddy switched from CIJ to MIJ Fender started using a locally sourced made in Japan Vintage pickups..)

the only Geddy Lee Jazz basses that have Customshop pickups in them are Geddy Lee's very own Jazz Basses that he's used on Rush's 2010/2011 Time Machine tour & the current 2012/2013 Clockwork Angels tour) ........ Customshop did work on his basses around this time.... :)

I thought the Japanese Geds came with the Custom 60's jazz pups.
In any case the bad is playing great and sounds great at the moment. I find the time knob I bit more responsive and transparent than my Squier jazz. My MIM P Bass has the ToneStyler which I find is perfectly suited for a Precision.
The roll off on the squir tend to effect more of the mid frequencies than the GED does.

Overall I am happy with my Geddy Lee purchase and recommend if your looking for a particular model, ask for price matching. I did and ended up getting mine for a lot less than advertised.

Hi i have a mad in MIM and compared it to to copy jazz bass fit Finnish was better on the Geddy but has now has got terrible fret buzz , getting it sorted today the strings that came with i do not like the standard strings i want to upgrade those i also compared it also to a stock squire

what great value those are , good build quality also i noticed from sweetwater the bases can be different weights also 1lb differences mine plays really well otherwise

in a nutshell i think its one guitar that you should try out first and get the shop to set it properly

Fret buzz is easily remedied, .......most of the time it just requires a bridge adjustment or truss rod adjustment,...... & sometimes a fret filing......
