I've seen the Fender FSR Jazz Bass on a couple of websites. They have a natural ash wood body with either a white or tortiose shell pickguard. I wonder if anyone owns one and can give me some feedback on it? I've tried one out in a local guitar store and the sound is great even if they are a bit on the heavy side. Wonder if there's any difference between the Standard Jazz Bass and this one?

Nothing diff't than any other MIM basses, except for the Ash body instead of the alder.

^^On the contrary, ive got one. The fsr jazz bass is amazing. Yes, it is based on the standard MIM. But having the ash body allows this bass to have more low end growl than the standard. Plus the pickguard is tortoise.
Just watch out in the winter time so the neck won't bend in the cold. This bass will stay in tune for a LONG time, i haven 't had to tune mine for about 3 weeks and counting... If your thinking about getting one, i say go for it. It is a pleasure to play

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I really want a FENDER Jazz Bass and I'd love to have a top of the line MIA but, unfortunately, my choices are limited to the size of my wallet. So far, I've tried out the Squier Vintage Modified Fretless, the MIM Standard and the FSR . I was impressed with the easy playability and warm sound of the Vintage Fretless but I'm not sure I have the chops to go fretless yet as I've only been playing bass for a year. The Standard was ok but lacked the punch and low end growl that I like. The FSR impressed me the most and all 3 axes are within my budget. Ahh, what a nice problem to have, huh?

My mistake sorry. You know staying in tune has nothing to do with the bass it self right, more on the tuners and the strings being broken in. :)

It's actually FSR - Fender Special Run(Release) - IIRC. Someone here mentioned it was for Musicians Friend and Guitar Center that Fender built this basses for, but I have no proof, just heresay

Personally, I don't like natural finish bodies on a bass, but that's just my opinion. If you like it, get it.

ah. is it made in USA?

I only like natural finishes on a maple fretboard. (I'ts cooler if the inlays are block ones , and even cooler if they are black. so old sk00l)

And I see that you own a Vintage Modified Jazz Bass. Would that be a Squier or a Fender?

I think that the FSR must be made for certain dealers because it's not shown on the Fender website.

FSR are made for certain dealers - Musicians Friend and Guitar Center IIRC. My Vintage Modified is a Squier. My Power Jazz Bass Special is a Fender.

I was gonna ask what you thought of the VM Jazz bass but I found the Squier Bass forum and read all the threads. I'm leaning towards the VM 70's myself and will be going to the Guitar Center soon to trade in my Aria GB-35 4 stringer for a Jazz Bass.

Thanks for the feedback. Appreciate it.
