Thanks Rev J. I don`t know if I really wanna start putting a coat of epoxy on my new bass, but I can definetly see the benefits of it. It has the factory flats on it now, and i`m kinda digging the warm tones. I always use rounds on my Ric, of course it is fretted, but i`ve beatt the bad boy like it owed me money for years and they haven`t chewed it up at all. Of course, like I said, the Ric IS fretted, but no noticeable wear. I just booked my set up at the dealer my wife bought the guitar for January 5th. Right now, the factory set up is sounding great, not really sure what kinda specs I can do to personalize it. Gonna take some messing around I guess. The action is nice and low, the way I like it, the neck looks good. Any tips?

I used Nylon strings on my fretless Jazzes, with no problems.

Nylon eh?(I'm from Canada, lol) I've never tried them. How's the playability? Are they hard to get used to? By the way, nice Ric. My other baby is a 4003 Jet Glo.

Cheers,

Vance

I've always used Fender 9050M Flats on my Jaco Fretless, My Bass is due for a new set of strings & I'm seriously thinking of trying either a set of DR - Nickel Low Riders or Dr - Sunbeams....... Both are supposed to sound great on Fretless basses .... I'll keep you posted on what I decide in the next week..... :)

Thanks, I like the Mapleglo. I almost got a Jetglo, but I liked the grain in the body of this MG.

I use the D'Addario ETB92 Nylons with no problems. They are very playable. The gauge sizes fit a Rickenbacker 4003 nut with no problem. If they work well on the odd size of the 4003 nut, (.45, .55, .75, .105), no problem with the Am. Std. I strung my Am. Std. Fretless Jazz through the body with the ETB92's. (.50, .65, .85, .105) I really don't think there is any getting used to playing with Nylons, in place of the metal strings. They last longer, and don't corrode.

Best of luck with your new Fretless Jazz.

Glenn

Thanks James. For sure let me know. I love the feel of the stock flatwounds that came with guitar, but for me alot of the fun us experimenting. I'm really curious to slap some round wounds on it. I mean to me, a guitar should be played and experimented with. It's new, so i'm not really too worried wear on the finger board. It's meant to be played, and i've heard great things about rounds on a fretless.

Cheers,

Vance

Do you know how to post pics? If you don't, it's easy.

Go to a site like PhotoBucket, get a free account. Create an album. Upload the pic, or pics from your PC to the album. Click on the pic you want to post. Get your cursor on the pic, so that an option box drops down. Go down to IMG code, and copy that link. Come here to the message area, and paste the link, like your doing a PM like now.

You're welcome Vance, I'm leaning towards the Sunbeams,.......though I might stick with the Fender 9050M's ( I was playing the fretless today, I did a string height adjustment on the G & D string & adjusted the bridge pick up & I like how it played & what I heard......Hmmm figures doesn't it..)..... If you'd like to hear a sample of DR Sunbeam strings.......check out this video that I came across ...... The P-Bass has GHS Pressurewounds & the Jazz Bass has DR Sunbeams on it.
