Hi jacksonjs30;
Congrats on the new Jazz. Your serial number US10240896, is an American Jazz, neck stamped 2010. Post some pics of it when you can. US10 of the serial number is US manufacture, year stamped 2010. The bass could have been actually made in either 2010, or 2011. Necks are made, and stamped, then used when needed later. Image

I put the serial number that you posted into "The Guitar Dater Project"
Here => http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx

Your number comes back as "Unrecognized".

Do you think you have bought a fake?

I've run several new Fender Am. Std.'s serial numbers through that, and got the same "Unrecognized".

How accurate is The Guitar Dater Project? I just put in the serial numbers for a few of my Jazz basses ( 2 MIJ & 1 MIA) & the dates were all wrong.....hmmm maybe I missed a step,.....I'm gonna try it again.

Gahhh!!! had to write this twice.......hope i remember what i wrote the first time....ok lessee here....

I can't speak for the Guitar Dater Project Page, but I can tell you that the Fender site's Serial number info has not been updated recently. We are working on getting something up there, but with much going on, sometimes these things take a bit of time.

jacksonjs30, your serial number traces back to an American Special Jazz Bass, Olympic White, Rosewood fingerboard, completed 1/5/2011 and shipped to a dealer in West Virginia 1/7/2011.

While i'm here, please remember that the serial number itself will not "prove" that your guitar/bass is a real Fender....although it certainly is a good step in the right direction.
All the best,
rob

I can not speak for GDP either. I do know that when it comes to Guitar Dater Project output, garbage in/garbage out is often part of the problem, such as entering "O" for "0" for example. Secondly, GDP was intended primarily to date vintage instruments, so the most recent serials might return unrecognized till the database is updated. Sometimes "oddball serials" such as any specialized serial format including American Specials, won't work. Nor will Custom Shop ones or "V" US vintage reissues. These specialized serials are routinely overlooked by GDP entirely while the mass production generalized serials are usually what works there. For example the "AMX" serials for the Fender California Series still doesn't work from 1997 and 1998. This is why I created my own Fender Field Guide. I use GDP as a backup to double check my stuff.

You can get bad output or no info if you neglect to check the correct boxes regarding USA/CIJ/MIJ. Also for some reason some serials are being reused by Fender Japan which means any sort of automated/serial only dating with 100% accuracy on the newer ones is impossible. Likely GDP will default to the older serial result or it is also a possibility they will delete both so that getting the wrong date info is impossible. Not sure which way they will go on that. I know which way they should go but I don't have any input there.

Anyway, GDP is just one tool. Like Rob said, a serial is not the only hallmark. It really isn't a 1963 or 1959 or 1988 or 2004 until you get in appraised by someone who knows what to look for. I can go to the local trophy shop and get a neck plate engraved.

Yes Luciano, it is still a valid serial. You posted elsewhere and the question was answered there also. As Rob from Fender explained the serials on the Fender site are not quite up to date but will be updated at some point in the future.

Hi MoW,
Is the Serial number real? Yeh, it tracks back to an American Std Jass BAss Maple Fingerboard in Blizzard Pearl (55) Part number 019-0662-755 cmpleted 6/29/2010 and shipped to a well known store in New York 7/02/2010. You could call the serial number "transitional", i.e. before they came up with the current scheme.

Cheers,
rob
