I'm considering buying a Jazz bass.My question is I'm leaning towards the Jaco Pastorius fretless.I've played electric guitar for over twenty years and I'm used to frets on the neck and I'm wondering if anyone has experience playing a fretless and would they recommend it?Thanks in advance.

I bought the Squire "Vintage Modified Fretless" a while back:

It plays and sounds pretty good and costs a fraction of what the "real" Jaco Jazz Bass does, so if you want to try out a fretless bass it's a pretty safe way to experiment without spending a lot.

I have the Fender Japan version (about half the cost!), and it is a amazing bass. I play fretless 90% of the time too. But I would recommend the Squire or the Mexican jazz first to see if you would like it.

I just bought a fretless Jazz after playing a fretted P Bass for over 20 years. Mine is an American Standard...none of that Mexican or Japanese stuff for me..sorry no offense to anyone. I shelled out some bucks for it but it is so worth it. It won't lose its value over the years either. The transition from playing on a fretted neck to a fretless didn't even phase me. I took to it like a duck to water!

I absolutely LOVE IT!

Get it and don't FRET over it! LOL!! You won't regret it!
