Linnin, what is the actuall difference from 7 1/4 to 9/12.? How is it measured actually? I feel a bit silly asking as I have been playing for decades. I ask because I tend to go for Jazzes with a 9 1/2" which I had thought was fatter (especially near the nut). Those necks feel faster/easier to play and Fleaownz, being a newer bassist may need more clarification also.
I just picked up a MIJ '62 reissue and the neck does not feel as "nice" as my others.

Think of a circle. Now imagine the curve of the circumference as the amount of curvature of the fretboard. The smaller the radius the tighter the circle the more pronounced the curvature of the fretboard.

The neck shape itself also comes into play. Older Fenders have what is called a 'U' shape. There is also 'V' shape which isn't really v-shaped at all. Modern Fenders have a 'C' shape. My 2012 American Standard Jazz has a 'C' shaped neck and a 9 1/2" radius. I find it very comfortable to play, and very fast. The larger the radius the flatter the fretboard. Also as an example G&L basses have a 12" radius neck.

Here's a review I wrote on my American Standard Jazz: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=75633

I get it and I hope Fleaownz understands. Thanks. As far as Fleaownz's choices, he should consider the neck shape as you said. I say this because what I am not digging on my MIJ '62 is the "U-shaped" neck. That is what feels odd to my hands. Not terrible but a little harder to riff around the nut side of the neck compared to "C" shaped IMHO.
Unless in my case it is a MIJ vs American Vintage Reissue thing.

And like you said, Fleaownz needs to play 'em all and sort out what feels good!

I think your best option(without testing) would be the Squier Classic Vibe 60's Jazz Bass..a gig worthy instrument that doesn't cost much.

I've tried it out in the store and I really like it but I was more itching for a fender instead of a squier, Is that bass a good comparable bass to a Fender?

Cuz I'm looking in the direction of an instrument I can buy now (even though I have to safe up some money for a while) and then never have to go for upgrades or repair (incase of poor wireing or such)

Also just for you guys who have or played both:
Are Squiers on the longterm a bass that you can be satisfied with? or would you pick a fnder instead (I know it sounds a little silly but still)

Both the Standard MIM and the Made in China CV's are made of the same kind of wood(basswood). Both also have maple necks. The CV Squiers have rosewood fingerboards, while the MIM standard gives the maple fingerboard option.

The MIM Standard has ceramic magnet pickups(still, right?). The CV has alnico's. The alnico's are generally preferred in Fender land. The Standard's use the same size pickups (Fender traditionally used a slightly larger pickup at the bridge). This might have changed. I'd look into that one. It's an important feature for the Jazz sound. The CV basses use the original route design.

Squier does a better job on the bridge pickup routings. There's usually a sizeable gap around the pickups on the MIM's.

The CV Squier could use some better tuners. I think you can buy direct replacements.

The Squiers have better finishes. The MIM Standard Jazz basses almost always have highly visable glue lines, causing indentions in the finish. Some of the Squier CV's are gonna have this as well. But, I haven't come across one yet.

One problem with the Squier(besides the tuners)...the frets wear much faster than that of the Standard's.

The Squier Classic Vibe's are going to be collectible. Don't know about the Standards...

Now, if you can find a MIM Fender Special Run Jazz...I'd look into that. Better wood...

Thnx yes, Kinda. But I got the understanding that a C-shaped neck playes much better then a U shaped neck. Further on Radius I dont know much about. What radius does the Squier class vibe 60 has?

I still Gonna look around to see what I like. Especially the neck. But I do take your advice seriously and I'm going to look for an american standard, see what all the fuss is about

But I was thinking of the Classic Vibe 60's Jazzbass, I guess that would be the same. Do all basses which are 60's models have 9.5'' radius?

Because I've been looking all over the internet for afordable Fender Jazzbasses and I came accros this one being the cheapest jazzbass while not going for a Squier.

Fender '60s Jazz Bass. havent come across it before because I've been checking out european sites and the fender site, now here at the fender website they ask 1050$ but the site I've found it on does 700$ translate that to euro's and thats 513€ which for a strange reason is actually cheaper than a standard (not american)

It has a C-shaped neck and 2 Standard Vintage Alnico Magnet Jazz Bass Single Coil Pickups. What do you think, good bass? cuz I think this is the one I think I'm going for

I want to thank all of you for helping me making the right the decision and giving me so much advice and information. I would probably have chosen the wrong one without you.

Now I'm gonna really think hard about whether to choose the 3 tone sunburst with tortoise shell or the olympic white one but thats on me.

Thank you for your time as well you're great.

I'd go with sunburst. I think that when they're new it's a great looking finish and when they have a few years on them and get a little more worn they look better. White guitars turn kind of what I call "Nicotine Yellow" with age that kind of off white color that smokers teeth get. I also think that the finish might be thinner on sunbursts but don't quote me on that. I read once that Hendrix preferred the sound of sunburst guitars in the studio but played black and white ones on stage because they were more easily visible.

Rev J

Hmmm....I never knew this ...Thanks Rev J......& with regard to Sunburst finishes weathering nicely we're both in agreement on that one & you're right with white yellowing as it ages......off the top of my head I think the only good looking weathered white Guitar
that I've seen in recent years is Jeff Beck's Strat... Cool looking worked in guitar.. :)

Yeah, I thought it over good and I have choosen the sunburst. I love that colour.
Looks really great, and thats how Jazz bass were meant to be.
I also love the tortoise pickguard instead of it being white. Looks to much like a standard instrument, the tortoise is something different again.

I also love the way John Frusciante's stratocaster whethered. Looks epic. In sunburst , hence the cool whethering.

Love to have a some cool whethering on it in a couple of years. It gives real soul to the instrument
