I've had my Jazz bass for about 10 weeks now, and I love it more and more. I finally got around to setting the intonation, so now it's perfect up and down the neck. I'm more of a guitarist and play an 2008 Am. Std. Strat and a 2011 Am. Std. Telecaster. All three Fenders are excellent. These are the best sounding and playing Fenders I've ever owned. But I'm working on my bass chops, and the JB is a great instrument. It's got full tone from lows to mids to highs--it's got a growl like a tiger. I've been playing a Ric 4001s for the last 30 years, and the Ric has an impressive growl of it's own. But now I understand why Geddy switched to the JB.

first off I knew you were a guitar player when you said it was ten weeks before you intonated your bass!!! HA!!! Now that's funny I don't care who you are!!!!!

No really - we are forgiving - (us bass players) so just don't let that happen again.

I personally am glad to hear that you like your J bass. The growl and honk of a good Jazz is beyond comprenshun. So next time you are jamming on guitar in the band do not ever ask the bass player to turn down. You can never go back- you are hooked on growl.

It is funny, but I hate to tell you, I've been playing bass since 1976. I switched to guitar in the late 80s, but I've had my Ric since 1978.

So I was a bass player first, and I don't mind it when the bassist plays a bit loud, long as my geetar can be heard in the mix too.

Well I'd jam with you for sure. The Wimpy sissy guitar players I was in a group with only wanted to hear guitar and all guitar all the time ONLY. If they ever thought I was invading their "guitar all knowing and hearing Universe" I heard about it post haste. I really had to go thru some junk with those two. I think a slapping was in order but I never did that. So instaed of being bullied by LSD singers and "look at me" guitar players--- I took a hike!!! HA! It are good!!!!

Sounds like family feud here.

The mix should and the instruments should always work for the song. Can you imagine "Paperback Writer" without the prominent bass or "Revolution" without the prominent guitars? Sometimes guitarists need to turn up, and sometimes the bass or the keyboard, depending on the best production mix for the song.

VERY WELL SAID. But not everyone who plays music understands that. Especially people who live in the box of ego and non foresight into greater knowledge of what goes on around them except for thier own private and personal wants and needs that only benefit the one.

Dude I'm on it like elephants on Pygmies.

There's no family feud- just facts and a divorce.

I've played in bands where ego screwed up everything, but my favorite times are those where I've worked in bands that made magic music because it was a band thing, and there were no ego trippers. The music is always better that way.

I'm more into bands than individual acts. While the one star may have a great band, I prefer bands where each player shines. That's why I've never been that much into people like SRV. Yes, I know he was a great player. But I get about four songs into a CD, and I've had enough.

Guess I ought to duck after that iconoclastic statement. Don't mean to grind any gears about SRV; that's just my personal taste.

Stroker I know where you are coming from. I play against two guitars in my band and they both have their little boost switches and volume pedals that they love to use to get on top of each other. And one of them is hard of hearing on top of that. No problem for me though, I always keep something back for those special needs situations. 8)

We went to in-ears in our practice space though which takes the ego out of the equation somewhat. Everybody gets exactly what they want. Live gig...the soundman does what he wants and I stand in front of my cab....usually no problems.

Here's a funny one. The lead guitarist sometimes points his Marshall cab at me on stage so it isn't to loud for him! His excuse is that he needs to hear the whole mix and not just his guitar.....what?????????

I've played with both ego heads and normal guy guitar players. The normal guys don't have all these odd hang ups in their lives. The Ego guys always have some wierd &%^$ going on in their lives like crazy wives, germophobic, weed, booze, telling fibs, backstabbing, loving themselves ever so much and junk like that. ALSO a normal guy guitar player can turn into an ego head real easy if he has people coming up to him all the time telling him how great he is. A couple years of that and you can have a genyoo wine "ego, look at me, check me out now," guy. I just can't stand them dudes anymore- I go the other way when I see one coming. They are pretty easy to spot. Some of them carry a mini fan to blow their hair back as the walk around.
