I have had the action adjusted on my Fender Jazz Bass Squier more than four times since getting it in 2010. Below is a picture of what it currently looks like:

Is it supposed to be this high? Why won't it stay low like it is after adjustment? I keep it safely in its case when not playing it.

What sort of strings are on it? What is your climate like?

They're Roto Sound (40, 50, 75, 90) strings. Climate has gotten cold here in Ohio, but like I said it's always in its case. Is Squier just not a good brand?

Squier is considered the beginner's model, but some of them are incredible sounding instruments.

Was the instrument stored in a basement or somewhere else that high humidity could have gotten to it? Has it done this since you owned it? Was it transported recently? Was it dropped? Was it loaned out?

It has never been exposed to those elements, but it has done this at least four random times since I got it. After reading some reviews from where I purchased it, it might need set up. Could this be a possibility?

I don't know how to set up a guitar nor do I know if the numerous Guitar Center or Sam Ash's I took it to for lowering the action did this or not. At this point, I want to see about exchanging it or replacing it for a P-Bass.

You probably need a good set up. I experimented myself, and after a few attempts, I've actually gotten quite good. It's always good to learn.

Take it and have a pro set it up. If you're in Central Oh - 5th Ave Fret Shop is good and so is German Villiage Music Haus. That action is way high. You prob need a neck tweek and then watch it for a few days. You shouldn't have to keep tweeking the neck all the time anyway to keep a lower type action.

If you have taken it in to have it adjusted they probably did a setup on it. Try a different tech. Advise the new tech you are having neck stability issues and have him do a fresh setup with new strings. If it is still unstable after that I would consider trading it.

You are not doing anything unusual like loosening the strings before packing it are you? Always in AC?

I just thought of something--- alot of guys never check to make sure neck screws are snug. That could have something to do with it-- BUT let's not tighten them so tight that they bend the neck plate---please !!! I hate when that happens.
