Hello!

I found a fully loaded neck online from a 2005 "Special Edition" Jazz Bass which appears to be MIM. It has a rosewood fingerboard with pearl block inlays. All the images I found while doing some internet research do not show blocks but rather dots. Does this sound correct? And, does anyone know what made this a "Special Edition"? As soon as I can figure out how to upload a pic I will do so.

Just thought I would give you all an update. After doing a lot more research I finally asked the seller about the block/dot inlay issue. He finally admitted that, yep, they are just stickers covering the standard dots. It's still a nice neck and I may buy it, but in my mind it is certainly not worth what he was asking for it, especially since it is not what he advertised it as.

Personally and this is just me again saying to myself in not private.... I do not understand stickers on a fretboard, it's like snakes on a plane. But I also believe in free will and to each his own and I probably won't change any time soon but I'm just sayin. -----ya know? Okay chastise me I deserve it for voicing an opinion. It's happened before. I can hang though.

I put faux black abalone block "inlay" decals on my 2012 antigua Jazz's neck. It looks so much better IMO than the black dots, and they're thin enough not to impare playing at all. I don't see a problem with them, if it's for your own tastes. Much cheaper than having inlays added to your neck, or replacing the neck entirely. Quick, easy, cheap modification. And totally reversible, if you decide you don't like them, or want to sell the instrument.

I'm all for personalizing instruments... I even swapped out a bunch of hardware and re-wired my $2800 PRS custom 22. To each his own... but I see no problem with any tasteful mod. Or even with anything I would deem tasteless, if the player likes it. But trying to sell a neck with stickers as inlays, claiming it's "custom"? Nah, that's just shady. At least he owned up to it.
