I am a Precision Player but a big fan of Geddy Lee. I saw Rush in Boston Wednesday night. Geddy played 4 differnt Jazz Basses. The standard black for 90% of the night. He played a sunbusrt for one or two songs & the red one for the encores i have seen all of these 3 basses or similar colored ones on previous shows but for 2 of the clockwork angels songs he played a blue one with matching headstock. Looked like ice blue or faded off color lake placid blue. Any one know what this blue bass is?

It's a Custom Shop Jazz that was a gift from his bass tech.

Here's a picture from Geddy's bass arsenal:

Yup... all of those look way cooler than MY Geddy Lee Jazz Bass. Particularly that flamey red one in the middle... *sigh* :(

I saw a picture of Geddy earlier this week that was taken during their hometown gig in Toronto on October 16, 2012 & he's playing the blue bass in question, though in this picture it kinda looks white, I love the tort pick guard & white block inlays......beautiful bass check it out : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geddy_Lee :D

It's the same Custom Shop flametop red Jazz with the alternate tuning Eb-Ab-Db-Gb.

Originally it came without a pickguard but recently a black shell pickguard with a red alchemical decal was installed.

Thanks for the info & the photos but from the photo on bass talk & the one with Geddy that almost looks white the bass appeared darker blue to me in person. May have been the lighting on the stage.

Yeah that's the photo & yes it's definately the lighting that's making it look white........ if you focus on the headstock you can see that it's painted.... :)

All Custom Shop Geddy Lee Jazzes feature hotter pickups as opposed to the regular MIJ version with the stock US '62s.

Geddy's Custom Shop basses are nicely reliced.

Honestly, I never imagined that flametop cherry red Jazz being refitted with a pickguard! :o

I believe the black shell pickguard mod is recent.

Geddy's pickguards are custom engraved & paint filled by James Hogg......as noted in the August 2012 issue of Bassplayer Magazine with Geddy on the cover..... :)
