Thanks!

I should clarify though......where I indicated "home-built" I should have specified home-assembled. The parts were all purchased individually on Ebay and everything is genuine Fender except for the Allparts tuxedo neck.

Arjay

Nothing wrong with home assembled. My 2011-2012 American Standard was build of separate EBay purchased components.

I have one with the S-1 swithing -- stock pickups left in. I agree with comments I've seen that the P-mode is only a very rough approximation of a P, but close enough for the few times when I use it. In J mode, I like it as is, so I never had a reason to replace the pups.

Have you ever given the Dimarzio Model J or Dimarzio Area J pickups a try? Both are very nice offerings that are noiseless as well. The Model J has great low mids, very thick sound for a jazz pickup. However, it doesn't have a lot of clarity. the Area J sounds close to a single coil pickup.

Rog - I installed the while body color Dimarzio "railroad track" DP-127's on my Precision Bass and my Cort Vintage Series 690BK has the Model P - DP-122's. The Ultra Jazz DP-149's are all that I'll ever use on the Jazz Bass because of the low frequency response down to 19 HZ and the high output... features that I need for our gigs because we do not plug into venue PA systems.

[Thanks for the recommendations - I have tested both of the one's that you mentioned.]

No problem. I see you're well versed when it comes to Dimarzios.

I bought a powered jazz bass around 92 or so and it has lace sensors in it. Everyone who has ever played it wants it but I will never sell it as it sounds good, plays good and looks good......how large of a coffin will I need to put the jazz bass, my strat, my tele, my twin reverb and my body in? That's right I'm taking it with me.......

I have EMG-J Active Bass pickups in my 1992 Fender Jazz Bass MIM. I have an EMG-BTC active Bass & Treble control in place of the original tone contol. I have always liked the more punchy sound of these pickups & the gain in output. Plus the B/T control provides more tonal variety. I have never liked stock Fender pickups or the hum they produce, that's just me.

My other bass in a active pickup 2000 Music Man Sterling, so when I switch between the 2 basses the active pickups on the J-Bass make them similar in output. Some people dislike EMG's but I tried Seymour Duncan Bass Lines J-Bass passive pickups before the EMG's and the output wasn't enough for my liking so I switched to EMG's. I'm an active pickup guy, oh well. Check and make sure your 9-Volts are fresh if you go active.

Dimarzio Model J ( old ones) and Duncan Antiquity also.

What is the difference between the old and new?

I think the old 70's and early 80's sound better. They seem to have more clarity - good mids ect- they adjust up thru an amp real good.
