Hi JTirado, Welcome to the forum. Can you describe what sort of problems you are having with your pickups?

Sometimes trouble sources are another electronic component such as pot, jack or something else instead. If you bass has an active preamp, it could be a problem there. If you can describe the problems exactly that will help Forum members advise things to check or parts to replace. Usually pickups work or they don't. If you are having an intermittent problem, meaning a problem that comes and goes, then that probably is not a problem with the pickups since they either work or they don't. If the problem lies elsewhere, but you replace the pickups then you will still have the problem plus new pickups!

If it actually is a pickup issue, it is no big deal as many people replace Mexican pickups anyway just because they want to and not because they have to do so! The Mexican Jazz pickups are OK but there are some decent options that are real upgrades.

As for trading, it would make more sense to find out what the trouble is first. Perhaps it is an easy, cheap and simple fix. Even if you do trade I'd figure out and fix the issue as if it comes up during the trade they will mark their offer down because of it.

As for what I think about the Jazz Bass Mexican Series, I'm not sure I know exactly which model you are talking about. There are several Jazzes made in Mexico. There is a Fender Standard Jazz Bass which is made in Mexico and I'm guessing that is the one you mean. They represent a significant value compared to about anything else in the price class. As I mentioned many players choose to upgrade the pickups in them, but that is a personal choice and the stock pickups are better than some other brands in the same price class. In general the Mexican made instruments are durable, playable and have reliable parts adding up to all the instrument most players will ever actually need. The advantages to a USA instrument are better body woods (the Mexicans largely use laminate/veneer), better neck truss rod system, heavier duty/more deluxe type hardware and Alnico pickups instead of ceramic. The USA finishing used to be better but the Mexican finishes are so much better that it is a virtual tie. The USA necks seem to play smoother for some players but some others actually prefer the Mexican necks! I think the Mexican Standard basses are both very good instruments, but the USA made American Standards have some refinements for more discerning players.
