8) I like the jazz bass because I like using the bridge pickups and also- while playing the jazz bass I like to rest my thumb on the bridge pickups for that tight bass lines and switch to the neck pickup for the softer bass grooves… check out this video and notice the change of tone when I change the position of my thumb

I'm a guitarist first so I got the J-Bass because the thinner neck seemed to be easier to skip to from the guitar. It was a logical thought but, I have no idea if it's true or not.
Some of you may have begun as guitarists who picked up a bass just to have one. Then, when a friend asked you to help out one day because, hey, you HAVE a bass....suddenly, you were a bass player.
I find myself, at age 49, in 3 bands. As their bass player.
My J-Bass is a Lefty 1974. And I love it.

Love,
tTodd

I started on a white '75 Precision in high school. It had a black pickguard. At that time my Mom gave $300 to our Jazz band director who got it at a music supply out of Rochester, NY.That bass stayed with me for quite a few years. In 1988 I picked up a 62' Mary Kaye Jazz bass with the gold hardware at a Guitar Center in San Diego, Ca.. I never went back to the Precision. The neck on the Jazz sold me. The tone possibilities are also endless. I'm still finding ways that make certain tones appear. The Jazz bass is quite the creative tool.
