I'm thinking of putting another bass together if it will work out. I have a really nice '94 MIM Jazz 4 string neck and would like to mount it on a newer American Deluxe Jazz body.

If I put a Fender MIM neck on an American Fender body, would it fit well?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the tip Ox, I appreciate it. :D
I figured someone here might know the answer. It'll be a few months before I can afford the project anyway and if no one responds I can post again later. I'm a patient man.
However, I did read another similar post right after posting this one that may have answered my question.

There was a post not long ago, I can't remember where. it said th mexican would fit but it needed to be sanded down because it was too big, I think.

Anyways, good luck.

i highly doubt that american made and mex made would actually "retro fit" as what ox mentioned... a little sanding should do the trick..

I've been looking for the post oxfan mentioned and haven't found it yet. Might have to look elsewhere, maybe the P bass forum. Also looked in Brother Dave's tutorial link that's in his sig and didn't find it there either.

Since I'm new to this board I'm reluctant to send PM's to someone I haven't "met" yet, wanting to respect their privacy. Some boards seem to frown on the same newbie questions being asked over and over, and I'm betting this is one of them.

Aside from that, my hunch is that the American and MIM model necks and bodies would have the same specs, but due to the nature of wood, some might need sanding to fit well. They probably deal with this at the Fender factories during the assembly process too.

Thanks guys! :)

Your question is a good one, and you're a decent guy. I'll send a PM to see if there's a solution.

I don't think it'll work. The standard Jazz has less frets than the Deluxe, usually. Those MIM necks are really nice.

Any MIM std neck should fit a Fender std body and any Fender std Usa neck should fit a tsd MIM body- they are interchangeable. If they do not fit it's because of particular models and hole patterns-- measure both and compare but as far as I can tell they will fit. Now another thing is the question of replacing a 20 fret neck with a 24 fret neck or vice versa-- then I think you may have an intonation problem.

**** DISCLAIMER I'm sure there are certain type bodies by Fender that won't accept certain type necks -- I'm not the walking encyclopedia on all that so maybe Bro Dave will chime in a blow me out of the water-- it could happen- nothing is impossible.

I'm strictly a "keep it the way I bought it" guy. Outside of pups, once, pickguards and strings.

Anyways, I'm curious why there might be an intonation problem. Just curious.

Thanks again for the comments fellas. There are some good points to consider here for sure, about number of frets, intonation. I thought that I had seen a 20 fret deluxe though, and I think it was about 5 years old or so.
Posting late again tonight, being fortunate enough to have a lot of gigs this year. But it's time to go to bed and all I have left to say is 'Where's the like button on this thing?' :D
