I suppose if the signature was on the front of the bass and easily seen, I could better appreciate the gripe. But it's a tiny thing on the back of the headstock that you have to look for to see.

I don't have a problem with it. Badfender does, I can understand it. He doesn't like other people's names on his bass. I said if you're not a fan it can be annoying, because you're not a fan but you like the bass. I don't care where the signature is, front or back of the headstock. If I like the bass I'll get it. Hence - back on topic - I've never would say don't get the GL because he has his sig on it. Enough on this already.

Actually $2,000 less if I get it instead of a Custom Shop.

I read a lot of reviews on Harmony Central, and it appears as though the GL will hang with most of the jazzes out there. The only complaint I read was about the truss rod. Is it true that you have to remove the pickguard to adjust the truss rod :?: From pics I've seen it looks as though you adjust it from the headstock end. :?

You have to remove the neck to really do the adjustment justice. I'm not really sure removing the pickguard will give you the access you need.

I got mine set after removing the neck only twice. :)

What's not to like? Hm, let's see...

- The very thin neck is not for me. My left hand cramps up after playing it for a while.
- I really don't like BadAss on my basses. I can't seem to get that woody feel and tone I desire.
- I don't like the look of black block inlays on maple. I much prefer rosewood with pearl. Maple looks best with dots IMO.
- More colour options would be nice. Olympic white (with tort PG of course) or CAR would be nice additions. Personally I never look twice at black basses...boooring

On the other hand you do get a quality built good sounding bass at a decent price. To me it's just not that appealing compared to other basses e.g. classic 60s.

Yes. The pickguard does need to be removed to adjust the backward mounted truss rod. Is this common amongst Jazz basses? I recall being told recently that Fender was going to leave an undercut at the base of the neck to allow access.

I don't like the look of those those blocky inlays. I mean - I really do not like the look. Reminds me of the other crappy 70's styles like wide lapels and blocky shoes, blocky cars.

Seems I read nothing but praise about it. I was thinking about picking up a new 08 American Standard Jazz but now I'm thinking I might get the Geddy instead. The Am. Standard is a little more but comes with a hardshell case, so adding the case to the Geddy makes them about the same pricewise.

Any thoughts/opinions either way out there?
You get a nice deluxe gig bag and the Bass is so powerful and light.

If it´s just for the looks, check out the Fender Japan 75 reissue. You can have a maple neck with pearl blockinlays or black ones and just like every bodycolour fender japan offers. Check for the used instruments at IshiBashi...

Get the geddy!!! I love mine! good sound look sorta vintage and sounds good. It's not that well designed for slapping with your thumb.

I was going to buy a MIA Jazz. I played a few and I played a few Geddy's and I ended up with the Geddy. I liked the feel and the sound better than the MIA's. I put a black pick guard on it and it looks cool.
Just to let you know, when I got my Geddy the new 08's weren't out yet. Because of this I can't give an opinion on the new ones. I've heard nothing but good things about the new ones though. I didn't care for the S-switch on the previous models.

My only gripe is, the inlays are paint. Playing one is like going back in time, it just feels good. I like the extra weight. Looking forward to the '70's re-issue. They have real inlays, sorry to say, no maple necks.

They didn't, that's just the way they decided to introduce them. As long as they make the Geddy Lee, that will have the maple neck.
