Hi, 'm going to buy a brand new Am Dlx J B and i want to know if the bass can work without any battery at all, or need battery to work in passive mode.

Thanks

It works in passive mode with no battery at all, but I don't know why you'd want to do that. This is an incredibly versatile instrument no matter what mode it is in, but you'll really like the active side too. It isn't as hot an active output as other actives as Fender tamed down the preamp to sound more natural and less fake. It isn't just loud, it sounds good. This is the first stock active Jazz bass that I've ever actually liked the tone of in active mode. If I was needing a Jazz this is a definite positive improvement from my perspective of wanting natural tone instead of fakey sounding active tone.

The active EQ will give you all the bass your rig can handle probably. Add in your amp EQ and for sure you have major league boom boom regardless of the string set used. If looking for the most boom in passive mode, either nickle or stainless flats will help that. Nickle flats will get thuddier faster but also go dead sooner. Stainless flats will last way longer but usually will be a tad brighter. You usually can tame the a fresh stainless flat set's zing with EQ and muting to a tone completely passable as a heavy vintage tone.

@brotherdave

The older Deluxes lacked off the active/passive switch found on the post-2010 models.

It's possible to upgrade a pre-2010 Deluxe with post-2010 electronics? From what I see the electronics on both models are different...

CHROMEY HOMEY, If you go back and read the original post it is clear the OP is specifically asking about the brand new model, "Hi, 'm going to buy a brand new Am Dlx J B..." The new 2012/2013 model is everything I said it is and does everything I said it does. It is electronically quite different even from last year's model. If someone says they are buying a BRAND NEW one then that is not the 2011 one or the 2010 one or the 2009 one.

Chromey I don't see the point in posting all that pre-2010 info other than to boost your post count as you close in on that 5,000 posts mark. You probably can smell it! LOL

I do not have intention to boost my points in order to become a rock icon. To reach that status I need posting 9.000 threads or higher, which is impossible to obtain in a matter of weeks.

My question concerning the post-2010 electronics upgrade for a pre-2010 bass is intended solely for general information purposes, nothing else.

Therefore I'm ready to cancel my membership and quit the forum if the community mistreats me as a troll... :twisted:
