I saw this bass and cannot find its model or any info about this specific model. Can it be a rare Fender Jazz Bass or is it fake?

It's;

[*]USA, California, Corona made
[*]Dz1 Serie (DZ1145652)
[*]Gold Tuners
[*]Gold Neckplate
[*]No Pickguard(Looks like Jaco's bass)
[*]Four Control Knobs(one is double function, one maybe pickup selector, others unsure)
[*]Maple Fretboard with White Mother-of-Pearl Inlays(Blocks style)
[*]Light Sunburst Painting(?)
[*]Gold Decal

Plays like a dream. Seems geniune but cannot find any info, maybe custom shopped?

So, what do you suggest?

Photos might help. Without them personally I'm sort of stumped by these specs. If it was Custom Shop it would have the hallmark stamping on the back of the headstock. The serial is a 2001 Fender USA one. Are there screw holes where a pickguard was installed at one time? Also wondering if this might be an aftermarket preamp. Where is the jack? Is it on the control plate or in the lower bout?

This photo is a 2002 Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass V FMT model. Is it a 4 string version of it or is it a 5 string like this photo? Just a long shot as it matches some of what you listed. The fretboard is rosewood on this one though.

No screw holes, four string, otherwise looks almost the same as the five string you posted. Output jack is on lower bout, fretboard is maple. Same style inlays, also has active pickups, two seperate backplates for accessing electronics...

what should i pay for this bass???it only has a couple of small scratches on it, otherwise in perfect condition and as i said before sounds and plays beautıfully!

and thanks so much for your help already!

That is a pretty crumby photo for sure but can see enough to call it a 4 string Fender American Deluxe Jazz Bass FMT model. Only made a few years like that. Nice.

Values differ based on location. Worth more in Nashville, NYC or LA than in Providence, Lansing or Tulsa. Worth more outside the USA than in the USA. Recently one showed up for sale in Russia!

Ballpark asking prices from a vintage dealer here would be from 950 (GD-VG) to 1350 (EX-MT) and the price would depend on condition and whether a dealer or private sale. Dealer would give you about 600 to 700 for one in excellent to mint condition then ask 1200 to 1300 to sell it back to you. They'd possibly settle for 1100. As a general rule private party sale prices can run less than a vintage dealer's asking price. I like this version because of the gold decal. Apparently in 2002 they were using some nearly identical decals that were all black. I like the gold ones better.

So depending on whether it is a dealer or a private sale I'd expect here it would be worth somewhere from 1050 to 1200 if excellent to mint. You might see higher asking prices but asking prices are usually negotiable.

You don't see these often, especially with the maple fingerboards. The 4-Corners control arrangement (also common on FMIC's DeArmond, Guild & Heartfield basses) was only used for a couple of years. While not exactly scarce, they are not commonly seen for sale and do look somewhat unconventional. The top is a flame maple veneer (often called laminate today) over alder. I personally prefer a painted or non-veneer top but most of the see through finishes will be veneer at least on top. Very deluxe hardware on these also.

These gorgeous American Deluxe basses were also available as QMT with a quilted maple top.

Personally I liked them better with a 4-ply aged pearloid pickguard and a gold-plated Jazz Bass control plate/regular knob arrangement.

You're right about the controls, the 1st knob affects the master volume, the 2nd is a "dynamic pan-pot" which is essentially a pickup balance (blend). The 3rd knob is a stacked (dual-concentric) pot for mid and bass while the 4th controls the treble.

The current Deluxes had two stacked pots, essentially the same control layout as the pre-2010 models except for the addition of an active/passive toggle switch and a passive tone control on the 4th knob which works only in passive mode.

Those Jazz basses are very nice.
The main question to ask is what do they want for it?
If you are buying this from a friend ask them to go to Guitar Center and see what they can get for it and offer a bit more.

Good luck.
