I've been playing on and off for over 25 years on a Ricky 4001 and an Ibanez sdg 5 string. Mostly rock, funk, little jazz, little classic. I like to learn a tune then mess it up in improv with different beats and riffs and so on...

Good, you're not a beginning teenager, and you have good basses already so you know tone & feel.

Do you want another 5-string or not? Because if it's 5-string yes, then you've got like only four choices of which the Marcus Miller Jazz 5 is the standout offering.

So what are you being drawn to? Which model do you seem to be looking at over & over?

Or do you want to build a personalized hot rod? Just grab a used Fender MIM standard and gut it?

I seem to be drawn towards either the American standard or the Geddy lee. Just noticed yesterday the difference between rosewood fretboards and all maple neck, somehow the maple neck feels more comfortable and faster. So it could be the Geddy lee, i was told it only comes from Japan. Is this true...???

Hmmmm...I think I read somewhere that the production of the Geddy Lee Jazz was going to be moved to Mexico, but I'm not sure. Call Fender's consumer relations for offical intel.
The Geddy Lee is a very poplular model with good reason.

The American Standard Jazz has a lot of great features such as the upgraded p'ups to Custom Shop, and the High Mass Vintage Bridge. This can also be had with either the 'white' Maple neck or the Rosewood fretboard. White necks are brighter while rosewood is warmer. Of course you will want one of each.

The American Standard Jazz comes with a supurb molded SKB hardcase. The Geddy Lee does come with a deluxe gig bag.

Both basses are very close in price.

 Buy the one your ears; hands, eyes, and heart tell you to buy. 8)

I have a Crafted in Japan Geddy Lee Jazz bass (bought it new in 2006) 2 weeks ago while I was in my local music store I saw a Sunburst Geddy Lee Bass & wanted to see if production had moved to Mexico so I picked it up & turned it over & yes it's affirmative The Geddy Lee Jazz Bass is now made in Mexico......I also took it for a spin & it felt equally as good as my 2006 CIJ Geddy Lee Jazz Bass......Good Job Fender Mexico!! :D

So i went for the Geddy lee. The price was better the feeling and sound was cool, and the only one i saw in this store was Japanese made. Since you guys mentioned it will from now on only be mexican made i might have bought the last japanese in Montreal, the other stores were out but had some on order so i figured the new ones will be mexicans.

Is that the only Amercan made Geddy Lee Jazz Bass? Seeing as Geddy Lee himself was made in Canada. Were all the other Geddy Lee Jazz Basses made in Japan and now Mexico :?:

Yeah, that's the only American Geddy Lee. Up to the recent future, going by what has been said here, they were made in Japan, until production moved to Mexico.

How can we be sure Geddy was born in Canada and is really a Canadian? I went to Canada once and didn't see him. What's that tell you?

Roger Waters is Mexican?
