Got my ashtray covers for the Antigua Jazz bass in today, and the chrome Tele knobs too. (Had to buy two sets, I could only find them in pairs. Then I had to drill out the holes so they'd fit on the existing pots... they were less than a mm too small. Not fun, I almost lost a fingertip... :x ) Those parts, along with the chrome plated solid brass thumbrest and the faux abalone "inlay" decals, effectively removed or hid all the black plastic on this baby. She's looking pretty fantastic now, I must say. And the new Fender USA Vintage Jazz Bass pickups sound way better than the mexi stock jobbers that were in it. All in all, I'm 100 times happier with this bass now than I was when I got it, and I loved it then! This just may turn the Geddy Lee into a case queen, except for the few songs in the set where I need to go crazy with a pick or if I should happen to start playing slap bass overnight, LOL...

Anyway, a few quick shots for now. I'll try to get a proper set of decent pics up after this weekend, I'll be in MD for the PRS Experience event. :D

+1 Agree with Mona. I like that it all looks factory even though it's not.

It's almost depressing how difficult it is to get a decent photo of the antigua finish, ore chrome for that matter. It looks nice in these shots, but it's absolutely stunning in person. I had no idea the covers would make that much difference, but they really do. I can't imagine a way to put more chrome on a guitar without it looking tacky at all... and I actually find them very comfortable for playing too. The neck pickup cover acts as a secondary thumbrest for playing closer to the bridge, and I really don't palm mute on bass anyway. It does make using a pick a little tougher, as there's a much smaller "window of opportunity" there, but I have the Geddy Lee for pick songs if I need it. This thing is just too pretty to leave on the backup rack now... 8)

Hopefully I can get some outdoor shots soon in natural light, and get better pics up. :D

A local shop has a '78 P Antigua. Thought you might like to see it for comparison:

Mac here's a few photo tips. Look for 'bright shade'. Not dark or deep shade. No dappled sunlight shining through. You're looking for nice evenly diffused sunlight, and nothing that will cause unsightly reflections on your chrome or finish. NO FLASH!

Manually set your cameras white balance to 'cloudy'. This will warm up the exposure a tad. Getting a good accurate color shot depends on the white balance.

Your bass would probably look great just laying in short green grass. Don't shoot it in the case. Or maybe a nicely contrasting colored beach towel or other fabric, a solid color - nothing 'busy' and not white as that will look too steril and detract from the image.

For a stand shot, be aware of your background! Choose something that is plain and non-distracting. Also be aware of what is being reflected in the chrome and finish. Idealy you want NO reflections at all, especially not of the photographer shooting the shot.

OK, now go shoot like a pro!

Big +1!!!

Also, don't neglect a good image-manipulation software program. You can compensate for many deficiencies during the editing process.

Rawk on!
