A little project of mine that turned out awesome if I say so myself!

The Body:

The body is from a 2011 Fender Classic 70's Jazz Bass that was parted out on eBay. Beautiful Sunburst finish.....but most of all it has the 70's pickup spacing which I prefer. Just like on my '72 Jazz. The electronics are from a Fender Standard Jazz. Eventually I'll upgrade the pickups. The bridge is a Gotoh 201 and topped it off with a Fender tort pickguard.

The Neck

The neck believe it or not comes from a new 2012 Fender Antigua Jazz Bass! A guy bought one and decided to part it out. I absolutely love the this neck! The profile is almost exactly like my '72 Jazz, just with dots and no binding. Has the bullet truss rod which is a nice touch, and came loaded with the 70's style tuners.

The Result!

Originally this bass set out to be fretless, but I was not too crazy about the neck...too thin. When the Antigua neck came up for sale I grabbed it.

Now this bass makes a great backup to my '72 Jazz! Also for those outdoor gigs that I rather not take the '72. Have some DR Nickel Round Low Riders on it and it is kicking! The weight is a bit heavier than my '72, probably around the 9 lbs mark. So here she is!

Nice one bassclef! It's been awhile, what happened to all the Sadowskis? This is a nice Franken J project :)

I still have my '88 Sadowsky which is a keeper. Sold off the Metro and Fretless Sadowsky due to lack of use! My main player is my '72 Jazz. But the Sadowsky still comes out once and a while when I need a modern tone.

This new bass is more of a backup for the '72.

Do they hold their value, the Sadowskis? I never see them come up on craigs, just wondering. I know Carvins come up once in a great while, but they lose so much from the initial price - it's a sig bass I guess to the original buyer.

Absolutely! Sadowsky basses, even more so NYC Sadowsky basses are some of the few these days that hold their value. Often people resell them for what they paid for. What attracts buyers is they don't have to wait 8-10 months for a new one!

On the flip side, Carvin basses have the worst resale value. Not sure why because they make wonderful instruments. They use some of the nicest woods.

Me, when I buy a bass I buy it to play. Never concerned with the re-sale value.

I agree, when I buy, it's for me to play :) Carvin I think since it's so custom, the next buyer might think he's not getting a great instrument since it's spec'd by someone with a different taste(? )
