Hello, I own two great American Deluxe Jass V basses : a 2005 model 0194760 (ash , pao ferro, cherryburst, all/only active circuit) and a more recent 2010 (0194690705 ; olympic white model ). This last one with active/passive circuit and toggle, which is a great feature. So great, that I was wondering if I could modify the the 2005 version accordingly. so adding the toggle switch option and the additional tone control via a double pot .

Anyone experience with it ?
Any idea where to find the control assembly to do it right (this support seems to stop on fender site with 2005 models?)

Any feedback appreciated. Keep on grooving in a free world!

I'd start by looking for the schematics for both basses to see if it's as easy a mod as you might think it is... generally it is, as long as you are handy with a soldering iron and a screwdriver, but there's always the possibility for complications... Barring any issues, you might be able to get most, if not all the parts you'd need at a local Radio Shack type establishment.

Another thought would be to search ebay for a junker body or loaded pickguard that has the entire harness and pickups from the newer model, and simply transplant the whole setup into the older bass... then re-sell the leftover parts.

Good luck... sounds like a fun little project, I love dissecting and tinkering with guitars and basses!

Thanks mac , the soldering is not the problem, but mainly the fact that I don't find the schematics for the 2010 version to vlauate the feasibility better . Thanks for your reaction though!

I'll try to get you something... There's a few wiring gurus on the PRS board I post at, perhaps one of them can work up a schematic for an active/passive switch circuit for you. It may not be the same circuit as the Fender factory setup, but I'm certain I can get you the same functionality, and probably a list of necessary parts from stew-mac or allparts, lol!

From what I see you want upgrade the old 22-fret Deluxe V with post-2010 electronics.

Upgrading a pre-2010 Deluxe Jazz with post-2010 features is - alas - a waste of time and money.

The pre-2010 Deluxes feature a 9.5"-radius 22 fret neck with abalone dots and two Hipshot string trees. Warmoth makes the same neck with a compound radius.

A few pre-2010 Deluxes were fitted with the HMV bridge.

I haven't gotten a reply yet on the other board, but it just dawned on me... you have both basses in front of you. Pop the control plates off and see what's different between the two! Just use the 2010 as the schematic... You should be able to identify the components by sight, I would imagine.

If not, post a few pics here, and myself and/or some of the other posters here can help you figure it out. :D

Thanks macgyvercaster, I have indeed found someone to do that for me.I assumed that the schematics were easy to find. Fender used to post them online in the past like for my 2005 version.strange they stopped that service :(

will let you know the outcome. Cheers
