My MIM Jazz bass' serial number is: MZ4xxxxxx

I assumed it was a 2004 model then.

When I looked it up on fender.com it showed a numbering system of:
MZ4 + 5 digits.

Why does mine have 6 digits after the MZ4?

It is a Factory Special Edition - Natural body/Flame Maple neck, and is left handed -- could these be reasons for the 6 digits?

What I found out:

All MIM J's at the local Sam Ash and GC have +6 digits after the date. I called Fender's customer service line and they confirmed my serial number but had no idea why the +6 numbers conflicted with the website listing for +5.

My conclussion: the website serial number listing for MIM J's having +5 digits after the date is incorrect -- and the +10 basses I have seen with +6 digits confirm this.
