Hello, I tried to find more info + date of birth of my Fender Jazz Bass. The serial is odd as it's made up of 7 figures instead of the usual 6... Serial number S8852607
Late 70s? Early 80s?
If anyone can help me with this?
Cheers
Yves

S = Seventies
8 = 1978
The rest is up to Fender and there serial number system.
Your Bass could be made from 1978 to 1982.
You neck butt will be the tell.
Also, you will probably have a S8 sticker in the neck butt cavity.
So, your Neck-Butt end date code will be most reliable.

S8 and E4 are both famous for being used in five different years.
I had an S8 Telecaster but was a 1982 Fender Build. Go figure.
Toppscore 8)
