If all else fails, you can add a second string tree like this:

Years ago I had a J where the A string would vibrate up past the nut (totally killing the power and sustain of that string) and it would occaisionally pop out. Even rewinding the string on the tuner capstan to increase string tension above the nut didn't help, so I added one of these "batwing" style string trees on the headstock to hold down the A and D strings. Problem solved.
