The FedEx guy just delivered this little gem yesterday...

I of course had to imediately add straplock buttons, the thumbrest, and the black pearl block "inlay" decals to cover those hideous dots, LOL... (I'm not a fan of dots...) Then I tuned it and gave it a quick play. It's going to need a few neck adjustments, the action is high enough to roll a pencil under the strings at the moment... but it feels nice aside from that, and a little bit of rough fret end action. Nothing a few hours at the shop can't take care of, but I'm not concerned with that right now. It's good enough as it is for a backup right now, which is why I bought it in the first place. I do like the neck, but it's not quite as comfy as the Geddy Lee is, so that will most likely remain my main bass. Regardless, I also love my new Antigua Jazz bass! :D

The pics don't quite show it, but the inlay decals match the bass color almost perfectly! The lighter color in the decals is exactly the same as the darker color in the bass... it's like they were made for this bass. MUCH nicer than black dots.

It looks terrific. I just tried one today. How permanent are the fret decals. Will they wear with use?

I've only had it for a few days now, but from what I understand, they're pretty durable. Got 'em off Ebay from a reputable seller who offers a whole line of them in different designs and colors. A few of the PRS guys I know have used his "dotkiller" birds on PRS guitars with dots, and had no issues. Besides, he sent like 6 extra blocks in different sizes as spares, I assume in case you have issues with installation or if one were to wear heavily over time. I'm really impressed with how real they look... from more than a foot away, you can't tell it's not real abalone. Definitely worth the extra $20. Oh, and alot of his single color sets are less than that, like $6 or $7. I know the black block set is like $7... I'd use his decals again, for sure! I may even put a set of Les Paul trapezoids or PRS style birds on the MacGyvercaster when I get it back, LOL!

At least the block inlays and thumbrest make the FSR Antigua more "period-correct" but it isn't enough: no binding at the neck, 4-bolt neck plate and missing ashtray covers.

I'm not all that concerned with "period correct"... it's a 2012 bass, so it's correct to this period, LOL! The thumbrest suits my playing style, and the blocks suit my aesthetic tastes, as does the finish. If it came with ashtray covers, they'd be in the case anyway... so if I really want to make it more period correct, I could just drill a few holes where the covers would have been.

Neck binding would have been nice though... the fret ends are a bit long and sharp in a few spots. It's going to need some shop attention eventually for that, but it's playable as-is. The fret ends are so far my only real gripe about it, I love everything else about it!

I don't take these as being intended as "period correct" re-issues anyway, more as a current line "inspired by" the originals. Sort of how the black-on-black Mexi Strat I got from GC a while back with creme pickups and knobs and a maple neck wasn't a re-issue or a mexican made version of the Gilmour Strat by an means, but it was Gilmour-inspired, and it was good enough for me. I ended up selling it, but not because it wasn't "period correct", I sold it because I couldn't bond with the single coil tones, and I didn't want to start changing the look of it by adding humbuckers. I tried to love it, as a Floyd fan... but I just realized I'm not a Strat fan. I sold it to another Floyd fan, who was perfectly content with it.

I didn't buy this one because of any attatchment to the originals, I just bought it because I like Jazz Basses, and I like this color. :D

Thanks!

I really can't figure out why this is such a hard color to photograph... practically every shot I've seen of them online is a different color... and right now, with m bass hanging right next to my monitor, the bass looks more like a yellow-ish pea green burst while it looks almost grey on screen. Wierd. :?

The color looks great in person. So great I just bought one today. It plays and sounds really good. I traded an Epiphone Swingster for it. I'm really pleased. It's my early birthday present to myself.
