Hello,
I am trying to find out any information I can on a bass that I just acquired. It is a 2010 mexican made special edition fender jazz bass in butterscotch blonde with a maple fretboard and black pickguard. Any information on body wood, number made, or other details would appreciated. If you don't know anything maybe you can point me in the right direction.
Thanks.

If you look at the second pic in this link you can zoom in and see exactly what it looks like. It looks to be ash.

I contacted Musician's Friend and they didn't even have any info on it. Like I mentioned, I have an email into fender but nothing yet.

Call Fender's Customer Relations for info. I too sent a few emails for information. One was answered in about 10 days or so. I recieved no reply whatsoever to the others, and it's been two months going on three. I ended up just calling, and some questions they answered and some they could or would not.

Probably what you have is a FENDER SPECIAL RUN. These are produced on specific orders by dealers.

Musicians Friend/Guitar Center/Sam Ash/Sweetwater and their mega competitors freqently offer FSR instruments. The differences between a FRS and a stock Standard can be something as small as a pickguard material or a color that is not available on a Standard.

FSR minimum orders used to be 150 units, but there is no limit to how many they can order and a big outlet can sell thousands, reordering them over and over.

Smaller chains or even a regional group of otherwise independent authorized dealers have been known to order 150 ONLY and that is it. These are often the nicer FSR's with upgraded electronics and unique tone woods.
