Hello. I found this bass on Croatian ad site and the guy is saying that it is a restaurated Fender Jazz Bass Japan 1984.-1987. I'm not so familiar with Jazz Bass. It has a serial number on the back of the neck near the body. The guy is saying that the original neckplate is removed during restoration and is replaced with another. And he is not asking for a lot of money. Please Help.
Here are the pictures from the same site. Click on the picture of a bass to look at gallery or on the taskbar where it says "fotogalerija"

Thanks!!! :)

I would say it looks fake to me, i have never seen serial number or any other identification mark on the back of the neck where it joins to the body. im not a expert though.

If the bass has been restored, perhaps the original serial markings were destroyed in the process, and this was added to keep record of the serial number and country of origin?

It definitely looks like it was added by an owner and isn't a factory mark, but nothing really jumps out to me otherwise about the bass as being fake. I don't know a whole lot about them though, so don't take my word on that.

If he's not asking a lot of money, and you can play it before you buy it, I'd go take a look at it and see if you like it. If it feels solid and sounds good, it's probably legit... If you're not confident it's a real fender, but you otherwise like the bass for the price, buy it and remove the decal. Replace it with a custom one of your liking... or just leave it be. Assuming you're buying it to play, that is... if you're thinking of it as an investment, well, that's risky. I'd steer clear if that's the case.

Just my 2 cents.
